please give me your honest opinions, suggestions, and/or thoughts! feel free to ask any questions!

Umm, you have a small chance at getting into some of HYPS, but it's unlikely. Actually, I think the only Ivy you have a good chance at is Cornell. Apply to some other good schools: Chicago, NWern, WashU, Hopkins, etc.

Oh and MIT will love you for being a girl, so you might wanna try that.

Apply. Your stats aren't odd-man-out at HYPS, so you should take a chance. People have been admitted with much less. SATs along the average for those schools, a demonstrated talent/passion for piano/music, strong course load and high rank, demonstrated and continued leadership capability.

Actually, this is quite a resume.

thanks enderkin

s snack: my counselor suggested MIT as a possibility also..but i'm not planning to major in any science/math field. i want to major in international business. why do u think i have a small chance of hyps? is it becuz of scores? and/or probably becuz i'm asian...darnit.

Only you and your teachers know if you're truly outstanding in music. IMO it would take that for you to get into HYPS because of average scores and nothing else that stands out coupled with being Asian. Hopefully you're from South Dakota.

How about a 5-year double-degree program at Oberlin College and Conservatory? BTW, their East Asian studies program and campus EC's from Asia House might be appealing to you. With your academic and musical accomplishments, plus the Asian background, you have so much to offer there. You mentioned "passion for music and helping others." At OBerlin they'd welcome all of that, including the "helping others" because of their long history of progressive social change. From the l9th century, they graduated the first black college students in USA who were runaway slaves, and became the first coeducational college in USA. However, you mightwant to define what you mean by "helping people" with specifics; perhaps it's your tutoring, or something you didn't list above, but get specific. Anyway, you sure do sound "Right Fit" for the challenging Double Degree at Oberlin!

See how you like it this summer there. It's a lot more interesting in the school year, with the campus full of students (2800) than summer, so use your imagination there.

I don't see why you think you have to present 800's b/c you're Asian. If anything, it's great to show your wide range of activities and scores above 700's. Don't get stuck on "I have to produce 800's b/c I'm Asian." You're BETTER this way, IMHO. Anyone above 720 can DO the academic work; after that, a college or uni wants to know "what else do they have to offer." So don't sweat bricks over your SAT scores any more. If they come up, fine; if not, still fine.

Since you want to major in international business, try something more related to that field. From your resume, all I can see is piano piano piano basically. Does your school have DECA? Or any business related courses?

Rice has an excellent conservatory program.

try for the HYPS........u never know!

To be honest, your stats look very much like that of a piano major. I honestly can't find any ECs that shows your passion in International Business.
Have you considered going into music? If you did, I think you would have very high chance of being accepted to some great conservatories.

I think you have a decent chance of being admitted to 1 or possibly 2 of the HYPS schools. Obviously, your stats are amazing like all of the other HYPS applicants, but it does happen to be a crapshoot, so you most certainly have a shot.

well i think that going into piano performance will be too narrow given that i know i can excel at other things...i just really want to have a backup ya kno? that's why i'm thinking about applying for joint programs like harvard-new england so i can do both. besides applying to hyps, i'm also going to try curtis, juilliard, and peabody just to see what will happen =)
colleges don't require you to state a major on your app right??

no unless your applying to eastern kentucky- u have to state your major- it has to be either lawn mowering, cow milking or lumber milling for your major there
