Honest/Realistic Chances Please?

So I have to admit I my anxiety toward college admission is only exacerbated by reading posts on this website, but I'm swallowing my pride and posting a "chance me." Please be nice.

My GPA is not a strong point: 3.52 cumulative, 4.5 first semester senior

American University (Journalism)

UCSD (Social Science- Undeclared)

UCI (Social Science- Undeclared)

I realize that many of you will call these schools "reaches," but I honestly do present an immense amount of personality on paper. I hope I can compete... and that last semester's grades impact my admission.

Thank you in advance! I really appreciate it.

Please? I could really use your opinions…

i think you have quite a chance.
your gpa isnt bad at all.
schools dont always want numbers, personality does count. my GPA was a 2.2 and i got into two schools with substantial scholarships because i had personality. Most admissions counselors look at an applicant as a person and try to give you the benefit of the doubt.
Try to interview as much as you can!
good luck!

GWU would probably be a reach for you, but everywhere else, to the best of my knowledge, looks good!

I think you can get into GW my cousin did and he only had like a 3.4 with only participating in 1 or 2 clubs. So you’ve got a good shot.

i think GW is a great match for you
a friend of mine went with VERY similar stats

Thanks FOFEITSUNDIALS, but I’m afraid interviews are already over :[

And thank you everyone, I’m feeling better :] It’s good to see some positive talk.

bump bump bump.

i dont think 3.52 is thaaat bad.

i think at this point it will come down to the essays. i remember looking at the accept/reject stats for pervious years on CC and lots of people with high stats got rejected. i think those with lower stats got in probably because they did ED…just my opinion though.

question though: you’ve only done journalism in 12th grade and you were Editor, Business Manager, and Jr. Copy Editor??
maybe you mean u were doing journalism for 3 years…or maybe the system at your school is different lol

anyway, i’d say SMPA would be hard if you’ve only had a year of experience, but if you didnt, then i think your ECs should be fine

woot go first semester senior GPA haha
GWU is low reach, imo

Peppermintdeluxe, I’ve only been in journalism for one year. We have a really awesome editorial staff. I’m new to the class, but I am very knowledgeable of journalism, layout, AP rules, etc.
The journalism supplement required me to a write a feature on myself, about 1,000 words, I think it was a fair representation of my skill.
Nonetheless, I’d be happy just accepted to GWU, whether or not for that major. I could always reapply.

Thank you, Ice!

Is 3.52 weighted or unweighted?
Sure, your stats aren’t fantastic, but it’s obvious just from the way you’ve written your chance post that you don’t consider yourself defined by your stats, which is really important. And if it came off that way in a chance thread, I’ve no doubt your personality showed through really well in your application. I think you’ve got a decent shot at all those schools, whether or not your stats qualify them as “reaches.”

Is that rank right? It seems to contradict the rest of it.
Assuming it’s right, and reading the rest, I’d say GWU is a low reach. I won’t answer about the other schools because I know little to nothing about them.

Eternal Icicle:
The 3.52 is weighted :[
Thank you very much, and no, I don’t consider myself defined by my stats lol.

The rank is my most updated, why does it sound contradictory?

bump bump bump

bump bumpbump

Anyone? Please?

Where do you live? If you live in Cali, that will OBVIOUSLY wayy boost up your chances for getting into the UCs. They’re not totally out of your way…

GW and the UCs are the only maybe on this list. Best of luck!!

Chance back pleasee? http://talk.collegeconfidential.com/what-my-chances/661484-chance-deferred-kid-ill-try-chance-back.html

I hope you’re right, because I’d be just as happy at any of the privates I listed other than GW.

And yes, I live in California.

Thank you.
