Honestly do I have a chance?

GPA: 3.69
Rank: don't know exactly but I am top 10% of a competitive public high school

SAT (they are pretty weak, I just can't test well)
Reading: 580
Math: 590
Writing: 510

ACT: 27
no writing

Senior Schedule:
Honors Econ/Gov.
AP English
AP Spanish 4
AP Environmental Science
Adv. Journalism
TA (served as a second period for journalism)

I was captain of my school's soccer team for three years but had to quit due to weak ankles.
I have been in journalism for three years, I was a News Editor, a Features Editor, I won writer-of-the-year, and go-to-writer, and this year I am Editor-in-chief of the newspaper.
I am an active participant in my school's Link Crew program, and also serve on the Kern County Student Leadership program. I am a member of the Spanish and Math Honors Society at my school. I am also active in my church youth group.

I am also in the Daughters of the American Revolution, and I know ethnicity shouldn't really matter but I am Native American.

As you stated, your scores are weak but your EC’s look good. It’s going to be a reach, but being Native American is really going to help you. Still I don’t know how much it’s going to help. It’s really a toss up but you do you have a chance.

WUSTL is known to really emphasize standardized test scores in determining acceptance and both your SAT and ACT scores are low. if you could retake either test, i would definitely recommend it. also, keep in mind, WUSTL does superscore the ACT. on the plus side, the fact that you’re native american and have some great leadership in your ECs will definitely help. be sure to write a strong and convincing essay and i say that you have some chance

Being Native American might be the thing that gets you in. Without it, I wouldn’t think you’d be remotely competitive with those board scores.

Write an essay all about being Native American and you’ll have a good chance.

Native American = Acceptance. (99% of the time)
Only less than 1% of students at X College are Native American.

So, MOST likely you are in.

Not to be the wet blanket here, but I have a different question for you. And please know I mean this in the most constructive way. If I am wrong then so be it.

Are you sure Wash U is the right school for you? It is really competitive, not in a mean way but just because the students are all so academimcally accomplished coming in. You have achieved many things, a stellar record really. I think in many ways Wash U would be lucky to have you. I would just hate to see you go someplace where you feel overwhelmed from the start. I hope I am not out of line suggesting you think about this at least. There are so many great schools where you might be a better fit. Or I could be completely wrong.

I think it it worth taking to heart what fallenchemist is saying, in a good way. My son is a freshman and attended the FSAP program. He was probably on the lower end of the statistical average for Wash U but excelled test-wise in reading comprehension. He went to a highly competitive high school. He is working very hard for B/B+ in most of his courses and has been discouraged at times but is starting to “get it”. Where you get in and where you comfortably belong may be very different. So, my guess is that you will get in to Wash U. If you do and choose to go there I would highly recommend starting in the summer to get a feel for the expectations.
