Here are my stats as of this last semester:
GPA: 4.5 (W)
SAT Score: 1270
My essay was quoted by my AP Lang teacher as “being one of the best pieces of narrative writing” that he had read from any of his students in his 5 years teaching. I think my recs were pretty good too.
I volunteered at the hospital since eighth grade, participated in debate club, journalism and on my own time creative writing.
By the time of graduation I would have completed, 7 AP courses, 6 honors courses, and 3 college classes.
I am a first generation college student, and live with legal guardians and moved in June 2017 to NC.
I have no idea what chance I have of getting in and would like some honest comments, thanks!
If in-state I would say you would be a low-match for UNC. Your course rigor looks strong but the SAT scores may hinder you a bit. Hopefully your essay will make the difference for you. Good luck to you
Based on our HS record and recent admissions info, along with alumni track records, your SAT is way low and there is a small chance for your admission.
Remember they use the holistic process. So you have a great chance. This is why I do not like the “Chance Me” questions. Good luck and keep looking out for your good news
What is your Unweighted and what is your class rank? What county are you in? My in state legacy S18 has a 1350 SAT, 4.4 weighted, 3.4 uw, 6 APs, tons of great ECs, Leadership, a great essay (according to 2 AP English teachers at his school), and was denied EA. I believe his class rank was not high enough, as he isn’t top 10%. I don’t want to dash your hopes, but want to give you an accurate picture of how difficult it is. Good luck.
^ The two B thing doesn’t necessarily hold true for all admitted students. My son has a B average was admitted EA. It really depends on the school and their rigor. My son attends a top boarding school where Bs are actually very good.
My point is just that grades and GPA are very subjective. If you attend a high school that has admit rates that are similar to an Ivy League college then generally the GPA will look different. Most students know what grades from their high school mean and should only compare like schools.
@Momto4kids we are replying to the original post with the best information we have. I may have missed something, but I assumed the post was from a NC public high school student. My daughter does not attend a high school where students frequently attend Ivies but is a large NC public school where many students were accepted to UNC. I attended and did not personally know any students who attended boarding school.
Hey all, thank you so much for your responses, decisions are expected to come out tomorrow and I am extremely nervous. I will fill you in if I get in, thanks so much for your discussion, I am trying to not get my hopes up.
