honesty is the best policy

hey hey,

I’m a senior applying to uiuc (instate), maryland, washington seattle, purdue, georgia tech.

My gpa unweighted is a 3.4 (4.1/4 weighted), but most of my lower grades happened in freshman year and I really improved since then (I was also obese which I talked about and how that affected my performance). I also was a paid intern at the University of Chicago and got a VERY strong rec letter from the researcher I was working with. Lastly, I got a 35 on my ACT.

If you could quickly tell me my chances I’d love you lots.

I personally believe that colleges don’t care too much about GPA. And your GPA isn’t BAD. The paid internship and recommendation letter are really nice application boosters. And that is a very impressive ACT score. I have had friends with good GPAs get denied from state schools for not having good test scores and other things to put on their applicartions. Maybe talk about your challenges in your admissions essays and how you overcame them to accomplish all the things you mentioned. I can’t say for sure if you’ll get in, but I say your chances look pretty good. Best of luck to you:)

^^thanks bump

also I’m applying cs and I’ve taken 14 ap classes and several honors classes (same thing in my school). I go to the top school in my state and top school in the country as well.

Dude you’re set. Your scores are top notch and your rigor is great. I think you have a very good shot at all of these schools.

As long as you make it clear the situation you had as a freshman and how you’ve improved, I would say you have great chances for all of these schools! ACT is for sure a bump in your case and If you have good ECs (I’m sure you do) I’d give you a great chance for a good school. Good luck
