<p>Hi all,</p>
<p>I'm applying for Education Abroad Program (EAP) to Hong Kong, and have an interview the Monday after next. Has anyone been to Hong Kong or studied at the Chinese University of Hong Kong (CUHK)? What was the experience like for you? What surprised you the most about HK? What did you like/dislike? Do you have any advice for prospective students?</p>

<p>what will you be studying in HK? They have student exchange program with Yale, i believe. They go there to study Mandarin primarily.</p>
<p>HK is extremely overcrowded, many families live in tiny little flats that are only a few hundred sq. feet. They are easily some of the most expensive real estates in the world. Smog is a problem. Winter is the only time I'd think of staying, the rest of the year is just too humid & hot. The view from Victoria Peak is to die for. Public transportation is great, I haven't seen one that's better. </p>
<p>I have not studied in CUHK, but I was on campus a few times with friends. It's the 2nd oldest university in Hong Kong, & is very well regarded in the region. They have excellent academics & many of their alumni have become leaders of their fields. The 3 original colleges that made up of CUHK were United College, New Asia College & Chung Chi College. Chung Chi means to worship Christ in Chinese. Within Chung Chi, there's a Divinity School & a Physics Dept, I just thought that was interesting.</p>

<p>I've been hearing from others as well that CUHK is a reputable school.</p>
<p>I'll be studying Cantonese and taking a few courses I hope will go toward my degree.</p>
<p>My daughter is teaching in nearby Shenzhen and loves to go into Hong Kong to attend church and to shop. She usually describes it as a combination of London-NY-Beijing kind of city because it's more cosmopolitan then other Chinese cities and the people that live there are a bit more sophisticated. I know a mother whose son spent the last semester at CUHK and had a great experience. He was able to travel quite a bit also.</p>
