Is this a good list for me? I have around a 3.8 unweighted GPA, 2180 SAT I, 790 Math 2 800 US Hist 800 Hebrew on SATII, I have been on the school newspaper in the three different high schools I attended, Member of the Int'l Thespian Society, NCTE Writing Achievement Award, AP Scholar with Distinction, immigrated from Israel seven years ago. I want to basically hone this list and maybe find some more schools (safeties/matches would be ideal) that could work for me. Thank you so much!

I think your scores are high enough so that you don’t have to apply to UCSC or Colorado as a backup. I’d probably still feel safe crossing out one of the midtier UCs.

I almost think you could use another reach if you are happy with a safety and are going to drop another. Reed and Brandeis seem like low reaches and the only big reach is Brown. People who like Reed supposedly like Swarthmore…you might think about that. Amherst if you like the open curriculum of Brown and Wesleyan.

this is kind of a strange list with odd schools on it: Reed and, say, UC-Berkeley don’t have very much in common; neither does Brown and UC-Davis. I recommend you really think what you want in a school, whether you want it in an urban or remote area, a big or small school, the atmosphere (competitive vs. mellow) etc.

gadiii - the UCs are superb in the liberal arts and languages, so no fear: you can still please your parents and be able to take fantastic classes at Cal or UCLA. If you prefer a smaller, more intimate LAC-type atmosphere - that’s a whole other can of worms. Maybe Pomona? Same price as some of the eastern schools you’re interested in, but closer to home, saving your family some transportation costs.
