I'm wanting to attend the travel institute of the pacific. It's a very small private institute and I'm going to study patisserie. I just wanted to see if anyone had any insight as to what it is like in Honolulu for a student.

Outside of school, do you like watersports and hiking?

Do you like the food served at L&L Hawaiian Barbecue and similar places?

I can’t comment on student life, but you need to understand that Honolulu is a very expensive place to live: [Cost of Living in Honolulu, Hawaii](http://www.bestplaces.net/cost_of_living/city/hawaii/honolulu)

My niece lives in Honolulu. For her, it is an exciting place with a diverse culture, food and wonderful outdoor activities. She is Asian, so she does not experience the anti-haole attitude. As a young student, you will love the experience. Embrace the culture and people. The cost of living is very high. Rents are ridiculous and you will more than likely share a very small rental in an old building unless you have the funds to stay in something more modern. Food, clothes and gasoline are very costly. Make sure you will be near public transportation, (bus). My niece does not have a car, she belongs to a climbing club, goes surfing and volunteers at a pet rescue. She has been living there for the past 2 years after receiving her masters degree and loves it. Medical costs are also high and not as good as you might expect for a large cosmopolitan city. Honolulu is quite crowded and noisy. It is different living there versus visiting. You will get to know local markets and local eateries. As in any city, there are places that are not safe. Embrace the Aloha spirit.

I know that it is very expensive. I’m going to be a nanny. There is no shortage of family’s looking for INHOUSE nannys. That will be a huge help. It also pays more than a traditional job. I’m all about water sports and hiking is great. It i didn’t live in west Texas I would be in the ocean everyday. Hawaiin barbique sounds great. I don’t really want to stay in honolulu. It should take about 9 months for me to graduate and then i would like to either travel. Or move somewhere like Kauai.
