So I understand this whole honor code thing. It's easy. Don't cheat.

BUT...why wont there be any professors or proctors present while we take tests and exams? What if we have questions? Who do we ask?

I'm assuming that a) they'll go over any specific directions for the exam beforehand, or b) directions will be pretty straightforward on the exams, so no assistance will be needed. It'll take some getting used to, but I think it's pretty cool!

Any elaboration upon this would be welcomed :)

The professors stick around for a while for that reason. I think they're there for the first and last 15 minutes or so. I just made that up, but that's the way I've heard it work somewhere else. Does somethign like that happen at pton perhaps?

Also--some courses have take-home exams, and the student is on his honor to follow the guidelines set forth by the professor.

Here we go, ivyboy05: * Under the honor system the students assume full responsibility for honesty in written examinations. Examinations are not supervised. The instructor in charge distributes the examination papers, waits for a short time for any questions, and then leaves the room, returning at the end of hte stated period to collect the answer books. * - Undergraduate Announcement.

I guess that period within which the prof waits for questions if up to the prof, depending on how convoluted-ly he's made his exam:). It's stated quite explicitly that it's a system of trust, however, and he certainly won't (or shouldn't) prolong his stay in order to check for cheating.

The profs do come into the test room periodically to handle questions and other issues. That's not a problem. And if something is urgent, they might be just outside or somewhere nearby. They'll help you if something on the exam is unclear or erroneous. They just aren't supposed to sit there and supervise to watch for cheating. It's the student's responsibility to not cheat and not let others cheat either.
