Honor program decision dates

Hi y’all!

I have been accepted into UMN twin cities and was wondering when the honor program admission decisions would come out. On the website it says that decisions will be received by the end of March but are they sent out on a rolling basis or everyone at the same time? I already received my acceptance letter in November.
Also, would you say that being a recipient of the Gold merit scholarship is a very good sign that you will get into the honors program? What percentage of students are admitted?

Thanks!!

This link has the academic profile of the students accepted into the Honors program. It should give you a good idea of whether you’ll be invited. I made it in with 33 ACT, 2260 SAT and 4.0. If you are above the average for your school of choice, you stand a great chance.

I was admitted in late October and got my Honors acceptance about a month later. However, I haven’t received scholarship information yet. Honors is rolling admittance. Also, keep in mind the the University is on winter break until MLK day, so the admissions and Honors offices may be closed right now.

My DD was admitted in October and received notice of being admitted to the honors program today. When we visited campus admissions told us they offer honors to students in the top 10% of admitted students.

My son’s stats are: ACT 35 composite (M/S 36, E/R 34); SAT 2230 (R:690 M:790 E:750); GPA: 3.72/4.12 UW/W; all 5s in AP Chem/Bio/Calc BC/CS-A. We are still waiting for Honors in CS in Engg. Dept.
But my son’s friend got in with 33 ACT; 3.95 UW GPA.
The only difference we can think of is he has no Bs where as my son has couple of Bs in AP Bio / AP Calc BC.

My DD was admitted to CLA Honors in October: ACT 35, SAT 2310 (or 1530 + 800), GPA: 4.0, mostly 4/5s in AP, many ECs. She also received numerous scholarships and we’re waiting to hear abouit NMF (hopefully this week). Visited campus yesterday to hear more about the honors program. Seems like it might be a good fit.

dadof2’s - it never hurts to call just in case there was an administrative error. Just tell the receptionist that your son got a 35 and you were curious when he might hear back…

I believe they have to cap the program at some number like maybe 10% of incoming class size so I suppose it is possible others got in ahead of your son, but I would still make the call.

The honors program is about top 10% of students (600 students total across colleges). I spoke to a UMN admissions counselor not too long ago and she told me that CSE was strong this year w/ a lot of applicants and avg honors CSE ACT is 35! If you got the Gold Scholar, then that is a good sign. Are you an NMF?

I 2nd Kajon that you should call admissions and plead your case - show strong interest in attending UMN if admitted to honors program. if you are NMF, call the NMF recruiter directly (and show strong interest in attending!).

If for some reason you don’t get into honors for next year, you can apply to get in Soph yr.

Good luck!

My D was accepted in October to CLA, she was not notified about honors until January.
