I just thought I would begin the inevitable thread discussing the outcome of the Honors Scholar Weekend (March 20-22). I just got notification (via snail mail) that I received one of the fifteen full-tuition scholarships in the College of Arts and Science--remember, no "s". I am very excited and about 99% sure I'll be attending Vandy in the fall. I just wanted to create a place for people to discuss the results of the weekend--hopefully to help out those applying in the future--and also a place for those of us who will be attending Vandy to link up prior to our matriculation. The letter was mailed Wednesday, March 23--just as promised--and I received it today since I'm local. For those of you keeping score at home, you can probably narrow down my identity a great deal. Anyhow, good luck to everyone else!

Lucky! Congratulations :). Sadly, I was not invited to the Honors Scholar Weekend, but I'm still holding out hope for some sort of scholarship from Vandy (fingers crossed).

I hope you've chosen some way to celebrate this, because a full-tuition scholarship is frickin' amazing.

Awesome! I'll see you next year, dude :). Vandy is an awesome place, even moreso if you're paying less for it :D.

I actually told the Vanderbilt people I would not be attending the interview weekend because I had received a better scholarship elsewhere, but they still sent me a 3/4 tuition scholarship today. I was somewhat tempted and now wish I had visited VU before deciding, but in the end I'm sticking with my original choice.

What was your original choice?

I just got a 75% tuition offer today! I'm so excited! I thought my chances were nil since I wasn't invited to the scholarship weekend. I'm glad that I was wrong :)

Congratulations, slipstream! My d is in exactly the same boat - she figured the chances for a really generous scholarship were gone, and got the notification about the Dean's Select scholarship today. She's on cloud 9, and now we're trying to arrange travel plans. We're so excited and happy about this!

got my 75% tuition thing today too! now i just wish a few more outside scholarships would work out

Have all scholarship recipients been notified? My friend was hoping for one - we live in NC so mail shouldn't take TOO long.

Could any of you post your stats, please?

1550 combined sat, national merit finalist, 35 act, ranked 1/344, school newspaper editor, president of a statewide journalism organization, math and science competition awards, writing awards, state champion/all state in tennis, numerous clubs/offices held/other extracurriculars...i wish i could have gotten one of those full tuition ones

When were these postmarked?

postmarked on the 23rd

i posted this somewhere else too...but anyway, i got one of the full-tuition scholarships (peabody college of education). only one (of this particular honor) is awarded in peabody. it's "the highest honor Vanderbilt can bestow upon a freshman" :) i'm 90% sure i'm attending.

my stats: 1490/790/790/740, 3.87 uw/4.75 w with challenging course load at a magnet high school, lots of ec's incl. leadership positions (founder and pres of web design club, research experience over the summer, webmistress of physics team, kung fu for 8 yrs, school gymnastics team for 2 years, etc), good essays (esp. one about why i love to teach, etc.), good recs.

I didn't get invited to that weekend but did just find out today that I got a 15,000 a year scholarship. So those not invited, don't worry there is still other merit money out there!

is it possible to get a merit award from Vandy if you didn't file a FAFSA form? Would any awards have come with the acceptance letter?

I didn't file FAFSA or any type of financial aid form. Yes, the award came with the acceptance letter.

Got the acceptance letter and a nice packet of info yesterday, but there was no letter that mentioned anything about financial aid. Is that when I would have gotten any scholarship information?

Mishdoob1- I was accepted ED and just got the info packet, but I also didn't receive any scholarship or financial aid info with it.

Hm. That's weird...I recieved financial aid with my informational packet.

Vandy doesn't consider need for merit-based scholarships so it won't matter whether or not you filed the FASFA.
