Honor Societies

I've done a search on this forum for Honor Societies and it yielded little results.

Can anyone shed some light on them - if they are worth pursuing and if most students who are invited join them?

My S has been sent several requests - most lately the Phi Eta Sigma.

Any help would be appreciated.

Here's a list of them. It doesn't include Phi Beta Kappa for some reason, but PBK is also at UVA. Plus, UVA has an honor society specific to the University - The Raven Society.

The only one that really matters is PBK.

15 credits a semester? Guess Im out of the running.

What's the adv of being part of PBK? Is it worth it to try have at least 15 credits every semester?

The advantage of being elected to Phi Beta Kappa is that it's very prestigious. It's the kind of thing you can list on your resume forever. Check out CVs of professors, doctors, elite attorneys, etc, and you'll see that many were elected to PBK as undergraduates.
