Hi,
I am having a little bit of trouble distinguishing between Honors and Extracurriculars.

1) If one win competition A, and is allowed to participate in competition B , what would each of A,B be categorized as?

2) Suppose an extracurricular C is a formidable but short program (e.g. one full week), how would one fill out the hrs/wk part for C?

3) Suppose an extracurricular D is not a weekly program, or does not have a rigourous weekly schedule, how would one fill out the hrs/wk part for D?

4) What in the world do you put in details/accomplishments section for simple activities such as tutoring?

5) How can one categorize the grade level of honors won during the summer?

Thanks, and I await your response

Let me get a B
and a U
and a M
and a P

I have some similar questions as well about my EC’s too.

1- it depends on the activity
2 1 week however many hours it was
3 Figure out the amount of hours you spend there then divide it by however many weeks it lasts, or so it’s a nice number (1, 2, 3, 4, 5+ hours for x amount of weeks)
4 Make it sound like it’s more then tutoring, write about the improvements the student made or something like that
5 I don’t know what you’re asking. Is it if something is the summer between 9th and 10th grade is it 9th grade or 10th grade?

Thanks for your response.
I still need to clear a couple of doubts on 1,2,5.

1) Lets say A is a regional Physics competition which you won first prize, and you get the opportunity to go to B, an International Physics competition (which by itself is a great honor), but you didn’t win anything at B.

2) Let C be a 1 week away-from-home camp, for which you sleep 6 hours, work 10 hours, play 8 hours.

5)Your assumption is correct.

Thanks once again.

1- If you practice with a club or team for it put it under accomplishments of that club or team. If it’s just a you go out and do it make a name for each one and list your place (or whatever you can) under accomplishments.
2- Well as it is now that would leave no time for eating, showering, breaks, or moving between things. I would say 15 hours a day would be a safe number per day (3 hours for eating, showering, walking from things, breaks and 6 hours to sleep) and if it were 7 full days it would be 105 hours per week for 1 week. If it wasn’t 7 full days just multiply full days by 15 and then estimate for the not full days (usually you get there in an afternoon and leave in the morning or afternoon)
5- Tricky, I think that the summer between 9th and 10th grade would be 10th grade since you get promoted at the end of a school year. Check with your guidance counselor for that because I could be wrongs.

No problem
