Honors acceptance?

Anybody know how long they take to make decisions on acceptance to the honors programs?

@daveverdo I don’t know the answer to your question but we are waiting here too. Please post when you hear something and I will also. Which honors program did your D apply to? DS applied to University Honors.

@STEMFamily, She applied to University Honors before the “priority deadline” of November 15. The website says they will announce decision before Dec 23. I was just wondering how much “before” was possible.

DS received acceptance letter for University Honors today. The letter was dated Dec. 22 and postmarked Dec. 23. He also applied before the Nov. 15th priority deadline.

Just got back from a holiday vacation and the Honors acceptance letter was waiting for my daughter. Congrats to your son.

@STEMFamily, was the letter a large package? I ask because we received a “postage due” envelope in our mailbox and DS apparently has something from UNL, but the post office will only deliver it if we put 54 cents in the envelope because postage is due! Now, I’m willing to give them 54 cents for an important letter, but not for more college junk mail. (Yes, I am Cheap.)

@GoAskDad Yes it was a large white envelope but I’m surprised that you have to pay postage. I guess it might have gotten skipped in their postage machine if they were running several through at once. Anyway, it was a letter plus several pages of information on the Honors College.

Thank you, @STEMFamily. I guess I’ll fork-over the 54 cents to Uncle Sam then, on the chance that the mailing is important. DS applied to the Biz Honors program at UNL (I can’t recall the exact name of it) but it requires an interview & seems like competition is pretty stiff for that one. Perhaps he also applied to the regular Honors college/program, so I will have to ask him about that. DS will visit UNL w/DH in Feb for the Biz Honors interview. I’m too afraid of potential bad weather to be “the parent on the trip.” (In addition to being Cheap, I am also scared of driving in snowstorms.)

@GoAskDad Good luck to your son on his interview! I looked at the Raikes program a couple years ago as DD13 was (and is) interested in Computer Science but she didn’t like the business aspect so she didn’t apply. Looks like a great program though for the kid with the right interests. I hope the weather is good for the trip.

@STEMFamily, thanks for the good wishes. I’m hoping for a mild Winter in the Midwest overall, since DS is visiting several colleges in Jan & Feb - ugh.

Guess whatever the mystery package IS, it is not an Honors acceptance. I had DS check his MyRed portal and his Honors app (for the general honors program) is still “under review.” In case the package pertains to the Biz Honors program, I’m still gonna fork over the 54 cents tho

@GoAskDad I didn’t know that they showed the honors app status on myRed so I just looked at my son’s myRed account. It still says that his honors app is “Under Review” too, even though the acceptance letter was postmarked over a week ago. That envelope could very well be a University Honors acceptance. Looks like no one updated myRed before the holidays.

@goaskdad My daughter’s BigRed account still said “under review” after she was accepted into the honors programs so don’t go by that. Good Luck and have a Happy New Year. We have plans to visit Nebraska and Indiana this winter so I am also hoping for a mild winter.
