Honors: ACES, Entrepreneurship, etc. - QUESTIONS!

My son got notified Friday that he got into UMd Honors, Computer Science major. He is very happy with this and this is his top choice. It looks like everyone that got admitted to honors was asked to specify their LLP in January and may have already been notified which one they are in. He emailed today and was told they would try to get him into ACES or Entrepreneurship. Any ideas what these are actually like? How about the 2 dorms associated with them?

He got notified so late, he could not register for an admitted student day…but it looks like they opened spaces since he could do the last one today, for 4/22. Is this definitely worth doing? We are 2 hours away, so fairly close.

@CDK - I think the admitted student day is worthwhile. We attended it two years ago. You should be able to get more info on the ACES and Entrepreneurship programs. I can’t say what they are like, since my D is in the University Honors program. ACES is housed in Prince Frederick Hall, the newest dorm. Entrepreneurship is housed in LaPlata, one of the traditional North Campus high rises, but it is air-conditioned.

ACES is a relatively new Honors program and the first of its kind in the nation. It’s funded by Northrup Grumann.

My D is in honors college and lives in the ACES dorm. It’s a palace. The room is so big they have a sofa and there’s still room to put a queen size air mattress on the floor when they host overnight guests. Heated floors in the bathroom, two spacious lounges where kids gather to code, indoor bike parking and suites for sophomore year.

Entrepreneurship may be in LaPlata but it’s ranked #10 by Princeton review for entrepreneurship programs. It’s a typical dorm room but at least your have A/C.

Yes definitely go to admitted students day, where you’ll meet the professors and get to see the dorm rooms. IDK about ACES but other honors programs let you do an overnight where you visit the program and attend classes. That will make the decision easy.
