I received my acceptance letter today (big envelope) - I've been offered Honors admission.

Does anyone know what this means, besides the possibility of a scholarship later, as metioned in the letter?

Are there any other benefits to honors?

congrats! I dont think theres any "special" honors...other than the obvious (early notification) and possible merit scholarship(s). Oh, and the Showcase open house in March.

Thanks...after looking a little closer at the package and their website, you are most definitely correct.

It is nice to hear early...I really did not expect to get anything from UMW for a while. I guess we'll see what the merit offer is later. I honestly did not expect anything. I am OOS, and my stats are higher than average for the school. It seems nice.

How much time between sending in application and hearing back from UMW?
My daughter will also be OOS (about 4 hours away), so she will not be going home on the weekends. Have you heard anything about weekends and whether or not UMW tends to be a suitcase school?

I think I submitted the application about 5 weeks ago. I did not expect to hear from them before Christmas, so it was a great surprise.

I can't answer about UMW being a suitcase school. I am from OOS as well. From what I know about the area north of Fredericksburg - it is heavily populated and any kids from there, or from Richmond for that matter, could go home very easily.

I also think, from what my mother told me about going to school in VA, is that road trips are rather common. So, once you make friends, you might end up visiting other colleges like UVA, Richmond, Randolph Macon, James Madison, etc., because your friends might have friends there, or you might! People like to hear bands at other schools also.
