Honors Admits?

I was admitted to the Honors College and I am wondering what other people in the community will be like... so if you were admitted to honors too:
Where are you from?
What other colleges did you apply to?
What are you like academically?

I've lived in Seattle all my life. I applied to MIT, Harvard, Harvey Mudd, Pomona, Stanford, and Columbia. I intend on majoring in bioengineering and minoring in linguistics, but I'm very well-rounded academically.

cool. I live in Phoenix but have lived in Seattle in the past. I applied to Harvard, Yale, Stanford, McGill, Columbia, and the University of Arizona. I have not figured out my major yet but I am more interested in poli sci than math or science.

i'm into honors and planning on attending. i also applied to mcgill but the parents weren't too hot about that one. are you two planning to enroll at uw? i'm actually from the pacific northwest but grew up mostly in cleveland, ohio then moved out to vancouer, wa this past summer. i'm very passionate about foreign languages; i'm fluent in french and german and am currently studying spanish. my parents want me to study business but i'm not sure. i'm leaning towards a major in poli sci, lingustics, or french/german/spanish something in there and then becoming a teacher. but i'd like to keep my options open and do as much study abroad as possible. good luck to both of you, wherever you end up!

I got waitlisted at MIT, which is the only school I REALLY wanted to attend. I'll be visiting Harvey Mudd and Pomona over spring break and decide afterwards, but I'm seriously considering UW because of the financial aid. I also love foreign languages (second to science though). I'm fluent in Chinese and I took three years of both Japanese and Latin in high school. Gl to you too.

I got into Honors, too. I'm from Seattle, and have been my entire life. I've ever lived anywhere else. I also applied to UNC--Chapel Hill (accepted) and Rice (waitlist), but still plan to go to UW because A) They offered me money, and B) My mom is having a baby in June that I want to see grow up. Also, UW is one of the top schools in the country for pre-med/medical studies, which is my concentration. I'm hoping to double major in molecular biology and psychology or chemistry. I'm also hoping to do a lot of volunteer work, and a lot--read, LOT--of acting. :D

I've been accepted, but not really sure about attending..

from: Richland, WA
other colleges accepted at:
-Olin (!!!)
-Wash U in St. Louis
-Cornell U.
-Northwestern
-RHIT

and waitlisted at Princeton.. which is where I really wanted to go.

I plan to major in bioE, or just engineering of some sort. UW offered me a lot of money, so I'm still thinking about it. Stats -.. good grades, good scores, varsity xc and track, some other things.

I'll probably be attending the Honors College next year. I've been living in Pullman since the summer before my sophomore year and am looking forward to moving to the city next year (a city where there is a good music scene and a decent education to be had, at any rate). There's a good chance I'll be majoring in Political Science, but I wouldn't mind doing some work in History and Prelaw.

Also Accepted:
Boston U
NYU
UC Berkeley
UC Santa Cruz
UC San Diego
UC Santa Barbara
Penn State U

Truthfully, I'd very much like to go to New York, but the monetary part of the equation just isn't fitting.

Accepted, but also unsure about attending. I'm from a suburban Seattle public school. I've also been accepted by:

Wellesley
Pomona
Berkeley

and was waitlisted by Columbia and Penn. College admission is getting so fierce and insanely impossible!

I'm planning to major in Econ and/or Poli Sci. The chances that I'd go to the UW are slim, but it's still a possibility.

I am originally from Boca Raton, FL but I have lived in a Seattle suburb since I was 10 years old. I basically consider myself a Washingtonian due to my coffee addiction, my utter love of the Pacific NW, and my true dislike of the grand retirement community of Florida.

I applied to a bunch of places. I got into the Honors Program (no duh), UCSD (regents scholar), and Northwestern University. (Oh and I was waitlisted at Cornell). Its probably going to come down to NU or the Honors Program. I recieved the NASA space grant at the UW so that is really appealing but I also really like elements of NU.

I want to major in Chemistry with a double major in a second science or engineering. I would also like to minor in music (another reason I like NU). Oh, and I really want to do research. I've been working as a chem research intern in a lab at the UW since last June and ABSOLUTELY LOVE IT!

Anyway, I really like this thread, helpful for prospective students like myself.

TTYL

Anyone going Thursday?

Yeah, I'll be there - driving out to Seattle today.

Hey..i live in NJ and I'm most likely going to attend UW and do honors program unless i get unwaitlisted from univ. chicago. I've never lived in Wash or on the west coast before..my sister just moved out there so thats a big reason why i'm going. I heard they have a great pre-med program. I was wondering if anyone who knows more about UW could tell me about their honors program and what seattle and the whole college is like. Thanks

I don't live in Seattle right now (Phoenix) but the city is the reason why I want to move back to Washington. Seattle has culture and tons of stuff to do... it is a pretty laid back city. Very green, very rainy, but the campus is beautiful and the summers are one of a kind. There is a lot of stuff to do, but since you are from NJ, you should know that the city is nothing like cities on the east coast. It kind of has boroughs like new york, so you can go hang out in different areas and participate in different events. The bus system is fairly convenient, too.

I can only address the city because I am still debating about the school.

I've spent a few summers at UW, but I can't say what the environment is like during the school year. UW has a huge campus--very green, comfortable, laid back, not too fond of the artwork though. I absolutely love Seattle in general--people are friendly, charitable, eat healthy, and love the environment. Public transportation is decent, like lizashowers commented earlier. At UW, it's easy to feel like a number though. I'm not too sure about the Honors Program.

Well, I just got accepted for direct admission to the bioengineering department! I thought I had decided on attending Harvey Mudd, but this is making me reconsider. Is it disadvantageous to specialize too early? My first choice is actually MIT, but I got waitlisted. =( This means I have to make a decision by May 1st...

Maybe someone who attended the Honors experience could enlighten us on the Honors Program environment?

I've lived in Seattle my whole life and will probably attend UW and do honors. I was waitlisted at Stanford and Columbia and accepted at USC and University of Michigan. I will probably major in something like political science or history, definately not math or engineering.

Anyone know anything about honors housing or about what other housing sounds good?

My daughter went but she is out of town until next weekend. The Honors website has tons of information though, including dorm info (generally McCarty I believe). I think she said the day was mostly talks and lectures rather than the more gritty "how do I do this" stuff. She and 4 others from Capital went, but I don't know if any of the others know about this website.

by the way...

did any of you honors admits get your official acceptance packet in the mail? In the acceptance e-mail, they said "An acceptance packet with detailed information about the Honors Program will be mailed to you shortly," but I haven't gotten one yet. Have any of you?

Just got an email saying my daughter is admitted to the honors college.
