Yes, I got mine about a week after they admitted me... it is just a collection of papers that speak to different aspects of the honors program, i.e, dorms, traveling abroad, etc. I also has the form you need to send to UW to let them know that you want to be a part of the honors program.

krayongirl-I attended the Honors Experience last Thursday and went away feeling pretty good about it. Several honors students were there, and in general they were very friendly and helpful, along with the Honors Program staff. Everyone went out of their way to make sure that we knew honors would be a more "individual" experience.

Only a couple weak points....the central one being that when I tried to attend two of the honors classes listed on the schedule, none of them were actually happening! This could have been due to the fact that this was the first "Honors Experience" the university has put on. I might go back to campus later and see if I can sit in on some classes.

I'm trying to decide between UW Honors and a very small liberal arts school in Oregon...I guess the main thing I'm wavering on is whether the Honors Program actually does keep you from feeling like more than a number. I got the impression that the staff and professors really do care about you (if you're willing to make the effort to talk to them, that is).

I agree with chapstick. The Honors professors certainly seemed like they intended to get to know the students in the program. They projected an attitude of community, which I think is pretty important so that students don't get lost in the multitudes of people at the colege. I generally liked the idea of the day, even if they were slightly disorganized (it was the first one, after all).

are the honors classes seperate from the normal undergrad classes or are there only a few classes that are specifically honors? and how many people are generally in one honor's class compared to a regular undergrad class?

are honors classes tough? ahh so many questions haha. oh and i was thinking about doing the honors dorming thing but not too sure if thats a good idea or not.

thanxxx again

chapstick-I'm deciding between Honors and a small liberal arts college too. I actually just returned from visiting the college in Cali and I love it there...the small classes, personalized environment, accessible and friendly faculty, and supportive environment. It's a tough decision.

I'm from small town a couple of hours South of Seattle. I also got in at Duke, and Boston U (I know, I didn't apply to many) but decided UW because of financial aid. I'm planning on majoring in business. Is anyone planning on living in the honors housing?

yea i'm going to do honors housing in lander.

What is an honors program?
Sorry for such a stupid question but i am an international and dont exactly know what an honors program is.

Also can I join the program later. It seems to be some sort of a prestige type program.

You can apply later. I think they take applications in spring quarter, but check the website for more info.

[edit] for late admission: http://depts.washington.edu/uwhonors/prospective/late.html

Thanks Sunil.
Where are you from? You have an Indian name.

wow your from india?

I got admitted to UW Honors (3.8UW GPA, 800CR/800W/740M), but turned it down in favor of Case Western Reserve U.

@GoldlySic:

Yes. Where are you from??

krayongirl,

This was the first year they presented a unique 'Honors Experience' program, and quite frankly, it was pretty weak. I'm sure they'll improve next year with practice. Outside of the tour, we didn't learn much. One thing we did learn is that they are expanding the Honors Dorm space due to higher demand. However they've exhausted space in the existing Honors Dorm (McCarty), so their going to have a special Honors Freshman section in Lander, which despite what the maps say, is really effectively 4-5 blocks OFF campus through a mixed neighborhood of shops and bars. Not UChicago, but I'm not sure I'd plan on walking home alone from the libraries late at night, especially for female students.

is lander far from the science buildings too?

xbballx,

Most of the science and engineering buildings are south and east of Suzzalo Library, so a little further away. I'd say about 1/2-3/4 mile from Lander.

lander is far...lol North campus is closer to campus than South.

well.. i hope i like walking then lol..cuz thas what i put down as my first choice. its okay tho cuz i kno i'll end up meeting a lot of ppl staying in lander.

lol same rational I had when i selected Lander.

yes..same with me
