Hi guys I've decided to start homeschooling
The problem is that I'm doing online classes and they do not offer any honor classes and they only offer 3 ap classes. I recognize the importance of honor and ap classes for public high schoolers but does the same "importance" apply towards homeschoolers? Note that I'm trying to get into top colleges (ivy leagues) OR rather do they search up the online class program and see the rigorous quality? I will definitely be taking AP exams to prove my rigorous studies.

I’m writing as a current homeschooled student so I am speaking for what I am doing and what other homeschoolers I know have done. I don’t really know exactly what colleges want but this is what I’ve been hearing:

AP exams can be taken without an “official” AP class (I took AP Lang last year after a regular English class and a month or so of preparation). You can decide whether the online classes you are taking are rigorous enough to prepare you for the AP exam.

Honors classes are defined by the school so it doesn’t really make sense (at least to me) for a homeschooler to have an honors class. If you are able to skip ahead or go more in depth that will show rigor that would otherwise be put under an “honors” label.

Community college classes (dual enrollment) are very popular with homeschoolers and are a way common way to show rigor. You can take the AP exam too if you are worried about credit.

Also, you do not have to restrict yourself to one online site. There are specific AP courses (Amplify is popular) and others like Udacity that you can use to learn and prepare for the AP exam separately. You could see what combination works best for you.

From what I’ve heard the main issue with homeschoolers getting into top colleges is showing your involvement in your community (and sometimes how you work in groups) so consider that too.

Alright thanks! Your information was really helpful! I will be taking online classes though Brigham Young University Independent Study and I’m hoping that the classes are good. Can you recommend any other resources I may find helpful as a new homeschooler? Such as other specific AP courses? (thanks for Amplify) I also want to know if there are any other accredited programs that are affordable that I should know about that I could take AP classes through. And I’m also hoping to take community college classes online next year.

A lot of homeschoolers I know use PA Homeschools AP classes. Google that. There’s also EPGY-very rigorous and AoPS (not AP classes specifically, but very rigorous math and CS classes).
