honors and awards- how???

i'm a high school sophomore in MA, and concerned since i have barely any honors/awards yet. i know that there are many that you would simply get for your achievements without applying, like the department awards that my school gives out but i don't win since i stretch myself out a lot so don't stand out a lot in any particular class. i was wondering if you guys knew about awards and honors that you have to apply for, and how i could go about doing that. thank you!

a word of advice: colleges dont want people who “spread themselves out”. colleges would rather have someone who is an expert in one field, not someone who is mediocre in others. the only way to win the types of awards that you are referring to is to become an expert in a certain field.

i am focused in politics, and try the hardest in my hist/government class, and that’s where all my ECs are focused. what i meant by spreading myself out is simply that I take all honors courses so i don’t have the time to be the absolute best in any of my classes since those awards tend to go toward students that put most of their time into excelling in one class. i’m getting membership to the national french honors society because it just has a minimum GPA of a 94 over 2 years, but i’m not #1 in any specific class. i was wondering how i could look into awards for anything outside of school or awards for overall academic success

i’m also learning piano (for a little over a year. i’m not very good, so i would be looking into something for beginners), taught myself guitar, and do some photography, so i was hoping to look into any art-based awards or competitions

just do a lot of EC’s in politics and it will look as good. try to win some awards in it as well.
