Honors at Choate

i use wheelock right now
its good...
i wonder what they use at choate, though...

They use Ecce Romani at Choate and several other schools that we looked at. You can buy the textbooks yourself. I know Amazon has it for beaucoup bucks but if you want a good quality, cheaper alternative search abebooks.com. We bought Ecce Romani 1 and 2 for about 12 bucks each used. Also if you google, you may find some teachers around the world/country have posted quizzes and games taken from this text to help bolster understanding. Maybe you can get a little jump ahead of the class?

Honors English does not start until Junior year with english 350. I am in the class now and it is definately hard.

Sam, what kind of grades do you need in Sophomore English to be in Hon. Junior Year? Like, what's the average GPA? I read it was A- somewhere, but maybe I'm just making that up.

Basically, from a current student's point of view, what does the average student have to be in honors? Thanks!

It can vary by teacher, but the standard is A- and above, though like I said, there will be some students who got in with a B+ because their teacher loved them.

If you are interested in/good at both U.S. History and English, then you might consider taking American Studies in your junior year. The class meets for 2 periods and combines AP US History with Honors English, except the numerical designation for both is 375 (instead of 350 for English and 355 for History). This is a really hard class. I was offered to take it, but declined, opting to take AP US and Honors English seperately, and my grades have really benefited. It is a lot harder to do well in this class, and many "Humanities" people who take it must settle with a B+ or B instead of an A- in the "normal" Honors/AP section. Sorry for the lengthy explanation, but its there in case you are interested.
