Honors at FL

online, UF lists thier honors requirements as a 3.9 (uF weighted GPA) and a 1380 on the SAT. However- while volunteering in guidance this summer- i xcame across a piece of mail that says they are raising the SAT req to a 1400. The web page still says 1380. Does anyone know what the deal is? Also, are the new applications out yet or do you know when they will be?

I really hope they don't raise it since right now i have a 1380 for the math and reading portions (oh yea i forgot to tell you they wont consider the writing portion) and would be bummed out if i took them again but went down instead of up to a 1400.

You should call admissions...UF's web pages are often out-of-date. I wouldn't be surprised if the requirement has gone up to 1400, as they have been increasing every year, and 1380 was requirement for the 2004 incomming class.

I believe they will consider your highest score so you should definitely take the SAT again - even if your score does go down, it can't hurt you.

Dpenn, found the following info at http://www.admissions.ufl.edu/ugrad/gtrtalessum.html (a page for guidance counselors)

Honors Program

The Honors Program has revised the criteria used to invite students to apply to the program for 2006. The new requirements are a 4.0 weighted academic GPA as computed by UF along with a total score of 1400 on the math and reading sections of the new SAT or a composite score of 32 on the ACT. The Honors Program will follow the policies of the Office of Admission as stated above in regard to the new SAT and ACT when inviting students to the program.

Applying Next Year

The new SAT will be required for students applying for summer/fall 2006 and beyond. We will not use results of SAT tests taken before March 2005. If an applicant submits the ACT, the optional writing test is required. The ACT writing test must be taken in the same test session as other portions of the ACT.

While we cannot mix scores from old and new tests, the university will accept the highest subscores from the new SAT if students take the new test multiple times. We cannot mix or combine any ACT subscores.

Our preferred method of application continues to be online. This site allows students to include their essays and activities online, and to use a credit card to pay their application fee. Preference will be given to applicants who submit their essays and activities in the online application. Please urge your students to complete the entire application process online.

Essay topics for the class of 2006 are being considered at this time. New prompts will be posted on www.admissions.ufl.edu July 1.

My S will be a freshman at UF this fall, btw. One more thing: try taking the ACT as well. Good luck.

Thanks for your help- Is there any disadvantage to apply late decision as opposed to regular desicion?

I don't think that there is any disadvantage as far as admissions is concerned. However, if you want campus housing, your priority is determined by your housing application date. I could be wrong, but I think that it is possible to submit the housing application prior to the admissions application.

If your are applying for he Honors program and want to live in the Honors dorm, there should be no disadvantage. Also, if you are a National Merit finalist, you automatically qualify for the Honors program.

omg, so glad I got a 1400.
