Has anyone gotten an invite to the honors college or scholars day? Last year they sent them out before the acceptance notices went out so I figured they'd be sent out soon if not already.

I heard that this year those notifications are coming out after decisions. On the Honors Carolina website it says that those who are invited will be notified within 2 weeks of receiving decisions.

I’m pretty sure Honors Carolina came out after decisions last year as well. I got my Scholarship Day invite between 1-3 days before admissions decisions (can’t exactly remember).

@skeezeyJ are you in the honors program?

That’s what I meant- scholars day invite came out before

I am in the honors program. I dunno why I couldn’t remember yesterday, but I got my invite to Honors Carolina 3 days after I went to Scholarship Day.

@SkeezeyJ congrats on getting invited! Do you know how hard it is for OOS applicants to get into Honors Carolina?

I don’t know that much about the admissions process since I’m only a student, but I did hear from a few admissions people last year that essays are typically the distinguishing factors for scholarship purposes; I’d assume they’re also very heavily emphasized for Honors Carolina. Since honors classes are so small I’d think a variety of uniquely thinking individuals who’re also smart would be much more appealing than a bunch of really disciplined students who have amazing stats but don’t convey as much personality. So, to answer your question, it depends on where your application’s strengths lie. Even if you don’t get in you can always apply later and you’ll still be able to take classes in the honors program, but you won’t have registration priority for them.

Honestly, there seems to be a significant number of OSS members in Honors Carolina simply due to the competitive nature of OSS admission into UNC.

Hmmm okay well I was pretty proud of my essays so I have my fingers crossed! If anyone gets letters about honors Carolina or scholarship day let us all know!

Keep in mind that if you don’t get into the honors program initially, you can apply after you have a semester or two under your belt. If I remember correctly my OOS son applied to the program and was accepted after his first semester. He did well grade-wise that semester and got to know his first year seminar professor who in turn wrote him a good recommendation. Maybe things are different now but that’s what I recall from a few years ago.

^it still works that way for first and second year UNC students.

Sure does. My D just applied after 1st semester as well. Not sure when notifications are sent though for new students or enrolled students.
