Honors Chemistry

Good afternoon, CC.

I've scheduled for my 10th grade classes, I'm a freshmen who took Honors Bio last semester. I'm taking Algebra 1 currently, and passing but I'm not the best at math. On the schedule sheet, it said Algebra 2 (pre calc or Geometry (which I'll be taking next year) was recommended.
Is this true? Is chemistry honestly difficult math?

should I just take regular Physics instead? Will it be easier?

tl;dr: Plan on taking Honors Chemistry, they said it takes Algebra 2/Geometry. I'm taking Algebra 1. Is this true?

-thank you.

I don’t think so. Chemistry is just algebra I. You’re fine. AP Chemistry is Algebra II stuff. That’s what it said in my course guide. Also I’m in Honors Chemistry now, it’s nothing but Algebra I.

You should encounter logarithms, which may or may not be taught in your algebra 1 class (it wasn’t in mine).

Chemistry is essentially basic equations. However, I remember I had to derive some formula on some test because I forgot the formula. But that shouldn’t even matter.

Chem math < physics math

Physics requires more math than chem honors. Chemistry uses mostly algebra 1, and if it has algebra 2, it wont be a lot and I’m sure you can catch on quick

The reason they pick people in higher math classes is because they know that they’re advanced and can do math at a faster pace then people who take the minimum math class requirement. At my school you can’t take Honors Chemistry if you’re in Algebra 1 freshman year. I’d say if you can’t maintain a consistent A in Algebra 1 this year, then don’t take Honors Chemistry.

I’m currently in honors chemistry, and so far I haven’t needed to use anything from algebra II. Honestly, I’ve only had to use algebra I in units that were more physics related.
Granted, my school’s course handbook only recommends that you’ve gotten a grade of 85+ in regular algebra I for honors, and that you’ve =completed= algebra II for AP.

I’m terrible at math (I failed or got a C on nearly every algebra I quiz/test I took in 8th grade… and somehow wound up with a B/B- average), & I’ve gotten an A in the class both semesters.

So, I recommend you take chemistry.
