I was wondering if chemistry is hard because my counsler was telling me not to take it since im already taking honors biology as a sophmore and she said taking honors chemistry will be hard. Any one else taken honors chem.?? Also do i need to take honors chemistry and biology sophmore year before i can take AP biology and chemistry junior year??

It's AP Chemistry you should take and AP Biology.

i thought honors chem was easy. but it depends on how good you are at science. some of people in my class that it was a pretty difficult.

These are easy questions for any science teacher at your school to answer, and impossible questions for us. Just drop them an e-mail. Curriculums and course requirements very state to state, even school to school.

Although I will say this, having taken AP Chemistry. The material is very extensive and if you are not comfortable taking Honors Chemistry I would not even consider taking it AP.

if you have chem/phys course at your school, that might be one option..it leads you more gently into chemistry instead of getting it full heads-on. i took IB chem I in my junior year and found it pretty tough to manage an A..

Don't start this up, again. They probably can't take APs as a sophomore at the OP's school and/or they don't feel up to taking AP yet. Why should he take those classes? Honors is plenty difficult, as well.

It depends on your school. It depends on the teacher.

Greenday read his first post again. He is allowed to take AP Sophmore.

Hon. Chem was easy to me!!

The need to take them probably depends on your school, its requirements and its curriculum.

Honors Chemistry wasn't that easy but it was very fun class. I'm science/math person so don't listen to me.

Let me rephrase what i posted..

Honors Chemistry was really easy first semester but diffcult the second semester! It wasnt just a breeze..

Well, I'm on block-schedule so it was one semester. However, there is no Honors Chemistry in our school. As the semester winded down teacher noticed that some people are ahead and said, - Alright, here are several topics, learn them and I'll test you; if you're done with all of them -- Chemistry'll magically to Chemistry H!
It still was 1.5 months till the end and topics weren't easy so I end up studying all of them in last two weeks and that was heavy. However, I've established very good study habits and I love chemistry by itself.
If you don't like Chemistry -- class will be horrible for you.
Dixi.

Don't listen to your counselor unless you really trust them. Mine always acts amazed by my courseload and says it's good enough, but it's not really that amazing. I know more about college than her by surfing this site.

MAsterus, actually he did not say that. I guess you're delusional.

Are you screwed if you get a bad chem teacher, though?

i think in any class you're screwed if you have a bad teacher.

yeah. it mostly depends on the school and the teacher. At my school, Honors chemistry can be a breeze or the hardest thing ever, depending on your teacher. My teacher was a total airhead, and so it was basically self-studying -_-.

I thought I was good in science (A average) until I took honors chem last year and plunged into the lower Bs range. Perhaps it had to do with the teacher's teaching which I never managed to comphrend completely or just my disregard at the materials for being so boring, nevertheless I didn't like the class at all. The first science class I actually disliked and I know I won't take chem again in the future.

I really hated biology. I think I'm gonna like chem though because I'm pretty math-oriented.
