Honors Class C - Rescinded From UCLA?

Hey everyone,

Maybe someone can help me with a situation I might be in? Here's the deal. I was denied admittance to UCLA for my first major, but because I'm an honors student at a CCC I was able to choose a second major, and was subsequently accepted for that. So, I'm stoked about getting in, even for my back-up, but here's where things get a little dicey...

My last Formal Honors class, (you must take a total of four to be honors certified, and this is my fourth) is Statistics and I'm taking that this semester (spring). I'm really awful at math, buhowever through much struggling I was able to get at least a B in all the math prereqs, but at some point I must have had a stroke because I thought it would be a good idea to take my last math requirement as an honors class. I'm now in the position of hovering right between a C and B - B would get me honors credit, certifying me, whereas C would be a passing grade, but wouldn't count as an honors class and therefore not qualify me to be honors certified. There are no honors classes offered in the summer.

I'm working my a$$ off to get a B, and so far I've been averaging As on all my tests so if I keep this up I should be OK, BUT - what if I DO get a C? I've been looking on the board for an answer to this but to no avail.

What will happen if I do get a C and am not technically honors certified? Am I completly screwed or are there ways around this? Like I said, I should get a B, but I want to know my options if I don't. I'm also wondering if this would be doubly bad for me because being in honors is what allowed me to be accepted as my second choice.

Thanks for your help

Wow, that’s a tough one to answer. I would just call admissions to speak with them about the situation because of its complexity. I had to take 18 semester units of honors coursework to be certified, so I don’t know that the advice I could give you would help since our honors programs seem to be different.
