honors classes at cc

How much harder are honors classes at CCs? I am thinking of enrolling in a couple this fall, so I was just wondering in order to figure out the workload I will be carrying. It says on the school's website that they are not more work or more difficult, just offered in a seminar style instead of regular lecture. I don't understand why everyone wouldn't take them if this were true.

Just wondering.

Also, do UCs really like seeing "honors scholar" on transcripts? Does it help much?

It can mean the difference between acceptance and rejection...I didn't take them, but it worked out anyway. but then, I wasn't in an incredibly impacted major such as Bus. Econ, Biochem, and Poli Sci.

well many ppl dont take them bc you need a 3.0 gpa to take those classes, plus other ppl do have the idea that they're harder. I took one honors class, and it was easier than most of my other classes (and i think theres a limit of 18 students for every class). But since I only took one, I dont think it made a difference for the UCs when I applied.

I'm currently in my third honors class. The first one I took was the hardest- Western Civ Honors (plus the prof was notorious for being hard). The second one I took was challenging- US Hist 20th Century Honors. The one I am in now, General Psych Honors is not much different than a regular psych class but we have an extensive research project at the end. I have gotten A's in all my honors classes, and I have a 4.0 overall. It just depends on who teaches the class. I got into Berkeley and am waiting for notice from UCLA in regards to their Regents Scholarship, so I'm sure the classes are a a benefit to the transcript. I definitely think you should take an honors class because it might give you an idea of what you are in for at a top tier school, if you want to go to one (i.e. Berkeley, UCLA etc.)

One more thing... I'm a political science major, which is impacted at Berkeley and UCLA and I got in.

My campus did not offer any offical honors classes... If we wanted honors for a class we had to talk to the professor, and if they agreed we'd take on typically an extra essay for the course or something of that nature.
