Honors college acceptance

Hi! My daughter got her acceptance letter to the Honors College today. ??. Anyone else get admitted yet? When/how do we find out about scholarships?

Hey! Congrats on getting into the Honors college! I’ve been working on my application, waiting on a rec letter. I have a question though, @funfit how did you fill out the scholarship question on the application (which scholarship did you receive?) as you haven’t heard anything yet? How long did it take for you to hear back about acceptance? Thanks

@Stressed2k18 I think it took 3 weeks to get the acceptance. I haven’t gotten any scholarship information yet. Not sure when that will be. I don’t remember the scholarship question. What was that?

My son is applying to the Honors College as well. He has everything ready. The application, co-curriculars page, and his personal statement. Is a Letter of Recommendation an intergral part of the application? And if so, who should he have write the letter? His AP Calc AB teacher wrote all of his LORs for the schools who required it on the Common App. Should he just ask his College Adivor? She will just pretty much reiterate what is shown on his transcript, testing scores, community service, etc. Just curious if the LOR will make or break the decision. He would like to get this app in as soon as possible but is uncertain as to whether to do the LOR or ask his counselor for one (which is about a two week wait at this point - since its app crunch time). Any advice is appreciated. Thanks and congrats to those who got into UCF and BHC.

@funfit Under the summary of advanced coursework, there was a scholarships and awards section. It also asked about national merit finalists. I asked the admissions counselors and they said to just put not known as of now. @Beccanole72 I am receiving my ROL tomorrow. I feel like it is an important piece of the application because it has the potential to show your character, which I believe is an integral part of the Honors college.

Thanks. Do you mind telling me who wrote your LOR? Was it your guidance counselor?

We used teacher lor.

I had a teacher write it as well. I have had a different counselor every single year because they keep leaving, and I just prefer asking teachers for these types of things because they know you much better in my opinion. Mailing in my honors application tomorrow!

My daughter mailed her BHC application on 10/21 and received her acceptance about 10 days later.

To my knowledge, no UCF scholarships awards have been announced yet … from researching past years, it looks like those start to go out in the November to early December range – so it could be any time now!

My daughter’s school sent all 3 rec letters that she has on file (1 counselor and 2 teacher). Actually, one teacher was kind enough to tweak her original letter to be BHC-specific since she her own child is a student there. We really appreciated that.

D mailed her BHC application in a week ago (we are OOS in VA) but we have not heard anything as far as it being received. Did anyone who has been accepted to BHC recieve any notification once their application was received? And how would we check her application status, the links I found on their website require one to enter an account name and password which we don’t have

Did your D sign up for a My UCF account to be able to check the portal for updates? We are not OOS, but I imagine the process is similar… That said, D’s BHC acceptance came in the mail rather than through the portal like her UCF acceptance had.

@FLboxer I’m not sure what you mean when you say did she sign up for my UCF account. She has her UCF ID that she got when she applied to UCF initially and she has her NID number. Are those what you are talking about or was there some other account she should sign up for to be able to check her honors application status?

You can go to this site

https://my.honors.ucf.edu/fmi/webd

Click on the file that says TBHC and enter their ID and Password!
Good Luck!

@MB2020 thank you. For anyone else wondering: when you use the link provided above then enter the UCF NID and your password for logging into the UCF portal and you will be able to get into the honor application status site.

I ended up getting deferred until April which isn’t as bad as bein rejected I guess. Does anyone know the chances of being accepted after being deferred however?

Hi! I checked our ucf portal and noticed my daughter was awarded the provost scholarship. Do they get an additional honors college scholarship?

@funfit 2 years ago my older D was awarded an honor college scholarship of 2K to be used for the first year only (so 1,000 each of the first 2 semesters). That award letter arrived later than the UCF merit scholarship letter did.

Good to know. Thank you!

Congrats … Do you mind sharing her scores and gpa.
