I just sent in my stuff for Honors College a couple weeks ago.
Will they notify you, even if you did NOT get in?
My deciding factor between UCF and a different college is riding on this decision.

I think they will notify you if you did not get in. You can call and ask, but when did you apply? If it has been over 3 weeks then it seems you won’t be a candidate that they’ll accept right away and may have to wait until April 15th which is their deadline for sending out acceptance letters in the mail.

No, it’s been about a week. They’re most likely just now starting to review it.

Oh, then ya you still have to wait lol simply because of when you sent it in. But because in 2 weeks it’ll practically be the 15th you’ll probably have to wait until then. It took my 15 days after I sent my things in to get accepted so if you subtract the amount of time it spent in the mail, it takes them just under 2 weeks to give you a decision if you’re a strong applicant. But by now it’ll probably take them all the way until the 15h because of the last applicants sending their things in as well as reviewing the applications they already received but put on hold to weigh how strong they are.

Thank you! But is it guaranteed that they let EVERYone know by April 15? Is that the set day?

Well they might notify you earlier if they review your application and accept you before then. But yes, according to one of the papers that came with the honors college packet, it lists different important dates and for April 15, 2009 it says “Final decision letters mailed to all deferred applications”. So since that’s when they send letter to the deffered applications, it’s pretty safe to assume thats the last day when they mail notifications. Depending on where you live of course it’ll take shorter or longer to get there.

I’m also pretty sure on this because the deadline for you to postmark and submit your student reply form and membership fees if they accept you is by May 1st. If they were to accept any students and notify them after April 15th it would be cutting it pretty close and would also reduce the chance they have of receiving a space. The honors college accepts more students than it has actual spots so once you do get accepted you pretty much are in but if you don’t submit the reply form and fees ASAP you might lose your seat in the honors college. Which sucks and you don’t want to happen because you can’t apply for the honors college after your first semester at UCF.

I applied to UCF on 01/31/2009, and have not received a decision yet. I emailed the Undergraduate Admissions office on 03/23/2009 to confirm they received all of my documentation and to check admission status. They replied that they had indeed received the documentation I’d sent through mid-February, and referred me to MyUCF to check my status.

MyUCF still shows the usual: “If required documents (transcripts, test scores, etc.) have been submitted, your application is currently being reviewed by our admission committee for the Fall 2009 term.”

Required Document Status: “An initial, official, transcript has been received. Please request that your high school send an official, final, copy after high school graduation…”

I realize students must be accepted to UCF prior to being considered by the Burnett Honors College. However, is it correct to apply to the Honors College prior to being accepted to UCF, given the application deadline of 03/31/2009?

good luck guys. I go here and I heard the average sat this year was 1350.

that’s an odd situation =/ wat r ur stats Fantom Knight? hopefully its some sort of computer error or just slow reviewing that’s behind the fact that they haven’t accepted you yet. Because if you’re a borderline student to get in then there really is no chance to get in to the honors college. but if you’re above average then you’ll probably get in altho it’s troubling that its taking them so long to reply to u for general admission =/

like laffite said the SAT bar is set pretty high. on the paper with FAQs it said that the average last year was 1370. I scored a 1420 so thats wat helped me get in so quickly, although its a lil unfair that to those who are hard workers but not the best test takers.

My son got a 1370 on his SAT that he took last October. If that is his best score, he will retake it, will that be good enough to get in and get into the Honors college?

He’s got about an unweighted 3.3 maybe, and a 207 PSAT. Took the ACT yesterday and bombed it.

Also, can you major in engineering and go to the honors college? Will your general chemistry/biology classes be smaller in the honors college, or are the smaller classes only for core curriculum or special honors seminars?

Can’t wait to take son to visit your beautiful school. Is it true y’all are going from commuter to residential? Campus life will be very important to son.

Do y’all have a pool on campus, or a competitive swim team? Son will keep up swimming for exercise, but good friends will want to still compete.

Good luck to all on your college decisions!

Montegut= your son’s SAT score should be good enough to get into the honors college but be aware, he will need to fill out an additional application for that after he is admitted to UCF. Honors classes, including honors biology and chemistry classes, are smaller than comparable UCF classes and he can definiteley major in Engineering. There has much much banter about UCF being a commuter vs. residential campus but let me assure you, the Orlando/Main campus is very much a residential campus. My daughter is very busy on campus during the weekends.

The campus has a lovely resort style pool and a lap pool but I am not sure about competitive swimming. Here is a link to the Recreation and Wellness Center so you can look around and see what is available. The rec. center facilities are top notch. The kids can even get massages for 40$/hour!

I’m debating about whether to apply to Honors or not.

Could somebody answer me this question:
Does the program require a thesis?

You’ll be a fool not to apply. At the honors college, you get a larger variety of teachers and smaller classes. You don’t have to take all honors, however, the option is still there. What I like though is priority scheduling. I doubt you know what it’s like competing with 4000 students for the same general education classes. It’s not fun. I got to register for classes on the first day. Not only did I register for summer and fall, I am also registered for spring.

The honors thesis is optional. Honestly, you have nothing to lose getting into the honors college. Just make sure your honors gpa in the honors college is 3.0 and you’re good to go.

It’s too late to apply to Honors for the Fall 2009 entering freshman though.

^ i agree. The only downside to honors is that your competing with students in your class that are just as intelligent, so you might have to work harder to get the grade you want. You should apply asap.

I’m a HS Junior, so I still have a year to decide… I’m stressing about college too early.

But thanks guys! I haven’t looked at Honors Programs because most of them require a Senior Thesis, which I definitely don’t want to do. Honors housing would be nice, but the Towers are too expensive!

I got into the Honors College and from what all the parents and students keep telling me, it’s a great experience and worth joining. You have a year to think about it dance2nite but you should definitely consider it. However, you should take your SATs ASAP if you havent already because that along with your GPA will show if you can get it or not. Sad to say but I dont think extra curriculars, essays, and personal statements make that big of a dent. They might really just serve as tie breakers for similar students fighting for the same spot.

I JUST recieved my acceptance letter to the Burnett Honors College.
It seems like a wonderful experience and more selective since there are no “lateral admissions”
I’m excited for the Honors Congress and Symposium and will definently join a sorority-- just looking forward to college !
Everyone who applied before the 31st should be getting their letters this week apparently

Do you mind posting your SAT/ACT scores nicky91? Thank you.

Congrats Nicky & marlins!

I’m wondering- will they notify you if you’ve been rejected also?
Or are you just left wondering until the end of April?
