honors college acceptance?

congrats nicky91!! I was really happy when I got in too  Looking forward to orientation!

My son was deferred from the Honors College and they stated that he would get notification by April 15th. He just received his letter in the mail yesterday stating that he was not accepted due to the competitiveness of this yearā€™s applicants.

oh, wow, iā€™m sorry.
what were his stats, if you donā€™t mind me asking?

I JUST GOT MY ACCEPTANCE LETTER FOR BURNETT HONORS COLLEGE!! :D

Iā€™m psyched. Iā€™m actually still in tears. I worked EXTREMELY hard for this.
Only problem now though- is finding all of this money.
Iā€™m OOS, so expenses add up to almost $30,000/year at UCF,
and Iā€™ve only gotten $15,200 in scholarships/loans/work-study for this year.
Iā€™m not sure if Iā€™ll even be able to go now. :(

I got my acceptance letter from the Honors College today! Iā€™m surprised that I got it, seeing that the average SAT score for people in the program being 1350. My SAT score is 1310 (640 reading/670 math) and a 760 in writing, so that mightā€™ve helped. My UW GPA is 3.65, while my weighted GPA is around 4.4.

Congrats to everyone who got in!

How exciting! Congratulations to all who reported good news!!!

Congrats Karlea and mac_411!! Your hard worked paid off!! Guess Iā€™ll be seeing you guys at the Honors Orientation !! Donā€™t give up though Karlea!! Money always has a way of finding if UCF truly is the school you think fits you. What other schools are you considering??

Thanks, marlins. :)

Iā€™m also considering University of Mississippi (Ole Miss).
They have a very good medical program, so it wouldnā€™t be that bad.
Iā€™ve just had my heart set on UCF for so long.
And Iā€™m ready to get OUT of the state of MS. :(

Our son was notified by mail today that he was accepted. He sent his application information on March 31st. He is out of state, maybe that made a difference. Good luck.

I got a letter in the mail from UCF today, but it was about financial aid verification.
I thought it was from Burnett. Hopefully I will get something tomorrow.

dreamweaver89 ur son must have impressive stats becuz between wen he sent in his stuff and got the letter, if u take away the amount of time it spent in the mail and the letter bak that only gives them like 3 or 4 days o.o congrats though!!

and knightforum u will know wen u get ur honors letter becuz on the envelope it will say burnett honors college on the return address, good luck!!

We are very excited that he got in. He applied very last minute (the paperwork came with his acceptance and scholarship info long ago, we kind of set it aside and forgot about it). I canā€™t say he has impressive stats. He did not even take the SAT. His ACT composite was 30, with the highest being 35 in science. The essay and information he sent just showed who he was, nothing glowing about himself at all. The #1thing he listed on his information page was about his faith and things he is involved with in church. The page on the application for honors and awards was pretty empty. He is not a straight A student although he is an Illinois State Scholar and he did get a Knights scholarship to UCF. His letters of recommendation were good, they spoke more to his inquisitive mind and quickness to learn and not so much to any accomplishments or achievements. He does know that he wants to design roller coasters, he is pretty passionate about that. Maybe having a specific career goal and being out-of-state helped. He also goes to a small private high school that does not rank their students. He is in Puerto Rico on a mission trip with his senior class right now, not sure he even got our message about getting in! Donā€™t think he will do the special Honors College housing though; itā€™s a contract for 11 and a half months and he already knows he wants to spend next summer at home.

Wow, your son may not have stats as high as mine but he still has an impressive list of traits and accomplishments. Iā€™m sure heā€™ll do great and the Honors College will only help him reach his goals. Iā€™m going to major in Industrial Engineering. I imagine he will also be majoring in some sort of engineering or physics since he wants to design roller coasters. I guess thereā€™s no better city for that than Orlando with all the theme parks around.

Has anyone received any rejections in the mail from Burnett?

I have been in constant contact with Burnett admissions, and about a month ago they told me that I was defered, and I explained that I will be taking the ACT again, and my scores will be out on Wednesday. Hopefully they still have that in mind which is why I have yet to receive anything.

So I convinced myself to apply for Honors when I apply to UCF later this yearā€¦ But after reading this thread, I donā€™t think I have a chance. :(

Has anyone gotten in with a 29 ACT?

A 29 ACT is good enough to get in I think but it isnt the only thing, you should know soon enough, probably tomorrow or Monday if you got in or not because April 15th was their deadline to mail out the final acceptance or rejection letters.

I just got these scores, so they said they have to reevaluate my application once my score report comes in. My scores were just released yesterday.

what were your ECā€™s and GPA (both UW and W) knightforum? I think a 29 ACT is good enough but of course its getting tough since this is pretty much the last chance you have to get in and there are few spots left. Good luck though and I hope it works out for u!

Thank you marlins97.

3.95 UW | 4.23 W
No ECā€™s though, but I explained in a letter why I was unable to participate, and so far every college has understood and has accepted me.

I am waiting on my writing score from the ACT to come in, and then my score report will be sent. I hope it does not take 2 weeks like it says, because I think the later it comes the less of a chance I will have.
