Does anyone know when the acceptances will be sent out for the Honors College? Does anyone know the statistics; how many applied, GPA, SAT and ACT averages, etc.

Are there any students that are already part of the Honors College that can provide some information about it.

Also, I've been admitted to the 6-year DPT program, anyone else?

I think your best bet is to go to the facebook page Marquette University Class of 2015: Real Students, Real Answers. On the discussion tab there is an Honor’s Program forum there might be some answers to your questions.

Thanks newsdrms I spoke with Honors College and they informed me that applicants were in review until today, 3/11/2001. Acceptances would be mailed out early next week.

My son was accepted in to the Honors program about a week ago and he intends to stay in Straz if he ultimately selects MU. While on campus yesterday, we just showed up at the dorm, asked for and received a quick informal tour. Straz has got to be one of the top dorms on campus. It’s like a hotel almost! More importantly, the students and staff were so very accommodating and friendly in showing us around. Honors floors are the top three or four floors in the building with phenomenal views of Milwaukee.

My son will be in the College of Health Sciences as a BioMed Science major.

Thanks so much for the info - I’m going to visit Marquette next weekend for “Admitted Students” day. I will definitely go to Straz – but it sounds great. I also know that it is one of the few dorms at Marquette that has air-conditioning and a fitness center – also a dining hall. I will be in the College of Health Science, too, as a physical therapy major.

I think the dining hall shuts down on weekends, so you’d have to walk over to Cobeen for meals. Its also got a lap pool with either 4 or 6 swimming lanes (4’ deep on one end, 9’ deep on the other). Each floor has 2 singles, 2 or 3 quads and the rest are doubles. There are 20-24 kids on each floor. Its coed by floor. The rooms are quite large by normal dorm standards and each has its own rather large bathroom. Every room has modular furniture and it all looks like it was just refurbished and new.

Freshman honors are on the top 3 floors with any overflow to the next lower floor which is sophomore honors. If too many frosh honors students request Straz, some may be placed in other dorms. Hate to say it, but McCormick looks like a dump in comparison, although I hear its lots of fun because of the large numbers of freshman.

The kids we talked to Thursday said Abbotsford was another really nice dorm and I’ve been in Mashuda on the west end which is also pretty nice.

Women outnumber men in the honors program by a fair margin, but the students I talked to say that the honors kids become a pretty tight group of friends usually. Very cooperative and helpful for each other.

Even though we’re just a 1.5 hr drive from MU (a bit south of Green Bay area) my S will probably not be on campus next weekend - he has Prom on Saturday. I hope you enjoy your visit and perhaps we’ll meet you next fall!

If I recall correctly, Straz used to be the YMCA which would explain the pool and fitness area…also believe that Mashuda used to be the Jesuit residence.

Because of a big enrollment surge in the 80s, Marquette bought two former Holiday Inns, one at 24th and Wisconsin Ave (where my parents used to stay) and the other around 17th/19th and converted them to dorms. Not sure if they own either one now.

Several other dorms had been hotels in their prior life as well which explains the in-room private bathrooms.

Yes Starz was the YMCA when I was at Marquette between '79-83. MU students were housed floor & above, and the floors below were still used as a YMCA. Mashuda was one of the Holiday Inns purchased. The Holiday Inn at 24th st. seems to no longer be owned by MU. Carpenter Tower used to be a hotel as well.

McCormick is . . .McCormick. The smallest rooms you will see anywhere. The bathrooms are nice, big, and clean though, and the dining hall has improved.
Neither of my daughters would trade their McCormick experiences for anything.

After being accepted into the Honors Program, I am really considering Marquette. I just have a few questions for others that are planning on entering Marquette as an honors student or current Honors students: is living in Straz recommended? I like the idea of having a close community of friends that are all in it together, but I don’t like the idea of being isolated from the rest of the campus. Can anyone give some insight on this? Or what are the thoughts of others who are also considering living in Straz? Thanks.

You won’t really be isolated from the rest of the campus. During school hours all students are within the same buildings. Your dorm is about 2 to 3 blocks from the center of campus. What it really amounts to is wether you want a more quiet atmosphere. You can go to the facebook page and look at the discussions section - residence halls. facebook page - <a href=“Facebook - log in or sign up”>Facebook - log in or sign up;

I just returned from my visit to Marquette where I shadowed a student who lived in Straz. You do not feel isolated at all. It’s an amazing dorm – newer than most, big rooms and clean. The freshman guys are on the 17th floor and the girls are on the 16th and 18th floors.

Straz is just over a small bridge to the east of campus. Basically a 5 minute walk to campus. Campus is small - so you can get anywhere within ten minutes. It’s on the same side of Wisconsin as the academic buildings and the library – so you don’t have to cross at any lights to go to class. It’s closer to downtown which is east of campus.

Basically my shadow said that she has many friends outside of Straz. The students in Straz are close because they do attend 2-3 classes together and because they live in the same dorm. But, most of her classes (science) are with students who live in many other dorms. Also, you become friends with those who are in the same clubs – the more you get involved – the more people you will know. Also – Straz dining hall closes on the weekends - so you are with other students in the other dining rooms.

Basically, Straz provides a really nice living environment – quiet at night during the week so you can study – and fun on the weekends just like any other dorm.

Hope this helps – I’d suggest a shadow visit.

Hi sorry to being up an old post but do you mind telling me your stats? Like gpa sat act scores? I’m applying in the fall and was wondering if I had a chance
