Honors College Admission

How long does it usually take to receive an Honors College decision? I applied after the priority deadline, so will that affect my chances?

I applied on January, this Mon will be 8 weeks & I’m still waiting. Hopefully I’ll get good news.

applied Jan 27th, admitted on March 7th.

I hope that means I’ll be hearing soon. I applied before that.

Woohoo!!! Just received my email stating I was accepted to the Honors College.

@fall14 and @franko5150‌ - CONGRATS to both of you! Would you (as well as any other applicants) mind sharing your scores/gpa/rank?

My son has a 1460 SAT (770M/690R), and a 3.7/4 gpa, unweighted (4.8/5+, weighted). He’s on the Honor’s College waitlist, which is being admitted based on the application date. He applied in mid-March, but one of his teachers was somewhat late in submitting a letter of recommendation, so his actual application could very well be late March/early April.

Also, I have no way of knowing how large (select?) the waitlist is. Any nuggets of information would be helpful. Thanks.

Thank you. My situation is different therefore I’m not sure how relevant it is to your situation. First, I’m a non-traditional student (that is OLD, I’m 45), second I’m a transfer student. My GPA for the last 2 years is 3.75 & I’ve taken numerous honors classes & will be graduating with honors. I’m also a member of the local chapter of Phi Theta Kappa & Sigma Kappa Delta (English Honors society). I also had 2 very strong letters of recommendation, one by a professor who earned his PhD at Texas Tech. I think that helped a lot. I’m very much looking part of being part of the Honors College at Tech. Right up to when I had that professor (the one from TTU) recommend TTU, I had not even considered it. My heart was set on Texas A & M. But the more I looked into TTU the more I was impressed. Another professor, whose husband works at the local college’s (UTPA) honors program also spoke very highly of the Honors College at TTU. We visited the campus (campi?) of all the university I was considering, UT Austin, Texas A & M, Texas State & of course UTPA (it’s local) but when we visited TTU it was different. I’m NOT crazy about Lubbock, but TTU really impressed us. The Honors College really sold me, coupled with the fact that there are several history professors there who are experts in my specific field of history.
Anyways, not sure if this helps your situation at all. Sorry to hear about the teacher who submitted the letter of recommendation late.

@franko5150‌ - best wishes to you! btw - I’m older than you, but I’ve always remembered a particular letter to Dear Abby wondering if he (she?) should go to medical school late in life. He wrote something along the lines of ‘after 8 years of school, I’ll be 48 years old.’ Abby wrote back, “Well how old will you be in 8 years if you don’t go to school?”

My son didn’t consider applying to the Honors College until he attended a Red Raider Roadshow in March. Funny moment from the parent session: Someone asked about what to do in Lubbock when visiting their child at Tech. The normally ‘rah-rah’ TT reps and TT parents were stumped - absolute silence. Finally, one parent on the panel said, “Well, there are some good restaurants.” My son is looking forward to the lower humidity.

I’m from the Rio Grande Valley so I’m looking for that as well. The humidity is hideous down here. By the way the restaurant comment is right on the money. For a mid size town Lubbock has some VERY good restaurants.

an update - with good news! My son received his acceptance email on June 24th.

Congratulations!!!

what semester did you all apply for?

My son was applying for the Fall 2014 semester.
