Should the University Application and the Honors College Application be submitted together by the 11/15 deadline? Is this better than submitting a university application EA by 11/1 then the HC app later by 11/15? Lastly, should teachers & counselors mail their letters of rec directly or should the student get them back and mail them along with their HC app in one big package?

It shouldn’t matter. I submitted mine together at the 11/15 deadline and I heard back about getting into to USC in mid-December, and getting into Honors on Christmas Eve. I don’t about know exactly recommendations, but either way should be fine. I did my application online, and I know that one of my recs didn’t send hers in until a couple of days after the deadline (my fault entirely) and it obviously worked out for me.

Just a Note… The Early Answer deadline is actually October 15.

I had a few friends who missed the EA deadline last year, because they didn’t realize it was so early and in order to bypass having to wait until March to find out their admission decision, they just completed the Honors Application by November 15, entirely not expecting to get into Honors, but they did find out about their acceptance into USC in December.

It looks like the early action college application deadline is 10/15 and the honors application deadline is 11/15 but can you submit the college application without submitting the honors application? How does this work?

Honestly, I don’t see the point in sending the applications in separately (if it’s even possible). You’ll still find out early about getting into USC if you apply to the Honors College.

If you don’t want to apply to the Honors College, then you can just submit the regular application by October 15 and you’ll find out in December. Or you can submit it by December 1 and you’ll find out in March.

If you want to apply to the Honors College, then you submit the entire application (Honors and USC’s) by November 15. You find out in December if you got into USC and by sometime in February if you got into the Honors College.

If you want to apply to just USC but miss the Early Answer Deadline, then you can submit the Honors College application by November 15 and still receive your USC Decision Letter in December.

One slight clarification to what AUGirl said Per the USC Website, Honors College notification is a “rolling decision process that will be completed by Feb 15.” Our son applied by November 15, and received his Honors College notification on Christmas Eve. JMarietol, per an earlier post (October 6, above), also received notification on Christmas Eve.
