Honors college chances

<p>My D just pressed "send" on her honors college app....gulp! After reading some posts on CC I'm getting a bit nervous about her chances. I know it depends upon the applicant pool each year. What do you think? Thank you!!</p>

Class rank - 2/243 public hs
SATs (best scores)
730 CR
690 M
790 W
ACT Comp 31
PSAT score made her a Nat'l Merit Commended Scholar
Takes all honors, AP and IB classes
Thus far taken 4 AP exams - AP Lang, AP US Hist, AP Bio, AP Psych - 5's on all (AP Scholar with Honor)
Will be taking these exams this May - IB Eng HL, AP Lit, AP Env. Sci, AP Eur Hist, AP World Hist, and AP Calc.</p>

Beta Club, Nat'l Honor Society, Nat'l French Honor Society, Nat'l Math Honor Society, SADD</p>

<p>Varsity Swimmer for 6 years (started in 7th grade), Team Captain senior year, Highest GPA award, State champs (3 yrs)
Year round club swimmer - USA Swimming Scholastic All-American, multiple time state champion
Has committed to swim for the Gamecocks :)</p>

<p>You’re right that it depends on applicants and I know ECs and supplement do count since lots of kids have good scores. 2011 midrange SATs were 1380-1470 and weighted GPA of 4.61 so definitely in range. Good luck.</p>

<p>I would be extremely surprised if she wasn’t admitted to the honors college. Granted, admissions has done stranger things before, but all things considered, she should be admitted.</p>

<p>I think she has a great shot of getting into the SCHC. Most of the applicants will have similar backgrounds and extracurriculars, but the swim team will likely be the differentiating factor that will set her apart. SCHC is a mixture of students with near perfect academic stats and great students with interesting hooks. Your daughter seems to fall in the latter category as very few students who play in high school get D-I offers. Even fewer of these students will have anything approaching her GPA and SAT/ACT scores. <p>Thanks for the responses guys! Makes us feel a little less stressed. Do you know when the kids find out? Is it Dec. or Feb?</p>

<p>OMG, she will have no trouble at all. She is going to love the new dorm buildings, have you seen them?</p>

<p>Thanks for your responses! Glad to hear that she should know in December! And yes, the honors dorm is fantastic, but I think the swimmers room together in one of the Quad dorms which are also great. :)</p>
