Honors College- Class of 2020

Hi I am an International student and have applied to Temple. I wanted to know the student profile of the students who have been admitted to the Honors Program for this Fall. If you could please state your stats like SAT/ACT and grades, it would be great! And any info from any international applicants for this fall would be great as well! Cheers!

Act: 32
Gpa (uw): 3.78

SAT 2250/1510. GPA 3.9/4.7

GPA: 3.94 UW, 4.6 W
ACT: 33 Composite

GPA: 4.5W, 4.0 UW
SAT: 2170/1450

GPA: 3.75 UW, 5.4 W (out of 6)
SAT: 2010/1300

SAT 2220
GPA: 9.8/10 unweighted (my school uses a 10 scale)
Have you decided to enroll?

No I havent decided. I did probably receive the dull tuition scholarship since I meet the requirments. I am still awaiting offers from other unis.

ACT: 31
GPA: 3.97 (uw)

I do not know if I will be attending yet, but it is my top choice as of the moment and I will be deciding after touring in two weekends!

ACT: 33
GPA: 3.94

I also am visiting soon to decide if I am enrolling. I am worried, however, since housing is first come first serve and it will be a couple weeks before I am able to submit my deposit. Iā€™m worried that I wonā€™t be able to get housing.

Same here @ajs28152 but hopefully I will be submitting my deposit tomorrow just to book my place. Waiting for a few other decisions though. Do you know whether the 1300 is filled up? Isnā€™t it supposed to accommodate ALL honors College students specifically?

There is plenty of room in 1300. If you sign up late for honors housing, you may be placed on the second floor which is only 1/2 honors. You will be in 1300 as long as you sign up before May 1st.

Awesome! thanks a lot! @PhilaSkiMom . I was a bit anxious coz one of my friends told me that the 1300 was filled up! Itā€™s a relief to hear that there us still room.

SAT: 2200
GPA: 4.0 UW, I have no clue what it is weighted.

@mushi123 I just posted about the HLLC on another thread. I debated this with the Housing staff on the last Experience Temple day and got some conflicting responses about how easy/hard it is to get into the HLLC. Anyways, hereā€™s what I posted:

I talked to the housing staff extensively about this when I visited on 3/13.

They told me that a common misconception Honors students hold is that getting into the HLLC is easy and almost automatic. This is not the case. Housing is not guaranteed for anyone, and it is especially not guaranteed for the HLLC.

My parents were so anxious to get my housing straightened out that I paid the $450 back in February and submitted the HLLC app in early March. Even with what I thought was ā€œearlyā€ action on my behalf, the Housing staff warned me that I still might not get in to the HLLC.

Anyways, after a nerve-wrecking wait, I finally got assigned to the HLLC with my chosen roommate (so yay). I really donā€™t know what the situation is right now. I cannot tell if they are just trying to scare students into applying early or if it is genuinely impacted this year. I think that their Honors program is growing, so getting into the HLLC might be harder than it was in previous years; I just donā€™t know to what extent. I hate to sound so urgent, but I would encourage you to submit your deposit and fill out the HLLC ASAP. Iā€™ve been watching students search for HLLC roommates on RoomSync. In early March, there were only 20 or so HLLC students on the site. After Experience Temple on 3/13, that number had ballooned to 50+, and there are probably even more now. Once you submit your deposit, you will be given a date on which you can sign up for your back up housing in the normal dorms. I highly recommend doing this in case you do not get into the HLLC. If you do get in, the HLLC staff will cancel your previous reservations.

I would encourage you to contact Musu Davis for any specific questions you may have. She is in charge of the HLLC, and is an absolute sweetheart. Her email is musu@temple.edu and her phone number is 215-204-0713. Right now she is ridiculously busy. It takes her anywhere from 3-7 business days to respond, but she is worth the wait. Also, if you have any general questions, just call the general Honors number. They are all very nice and helpful.

And of course, you can always ask me your questions. Iā€™ve gained a lot of TU experience during the past couple months, and Iā€™ve probably annoyed the heck out of their staff. Best of luck!

@danceologist Thanks for the post. As my son is in Florida for a HS trip, I did contact Musu Davis. (And yes sheā€™s very helpful.) A couple of points from the conversation:

  1. The Honors LLC (at 1300) is not full and theyā€™ve historically never had to deny a place to those who have applied by May1.
  2. Although she canā€™t guarantee that this will be the case this year (after all, housing at Temple IS on a first come / first serve basis), itā€™s still very likely. She would have said the same thing last year, or the year before ā€¦
  3. Every student admitted to the Honors Program should have received an email today confirming that thereā€™s still space with very specific instructions on how to enroll. She stressed that enrolling students who want a spot in the Honors LLC should read this email very carefully.
  4. She will continue to send out this email on a weekly basis going forward (unless in the unlikely event that they do run out of space).

@mtown27 Thank you so much for sharing! Iā€™m glad we got some clarification from Musu. For everyone with questions about the HLLC, read the above post!!

A word of advice to everyone: even though the general Housing staff members are very nice, they do not necessarily know the status of the HLLC. For HLLC questions, contact the Honors department (preferably Musu). I did get Musuā€™s email this morning, but it doesnā€™t really apply to my since I already have my HLLC spot.

That is about as close to a guarantee as you will get. So, prospective Honors students, take the proper amount of time to get acquainted with Temple, compare it with other schools, and donā€™t worry too much about the housing situation. It sounds like your chances are pretty good.

I wish you all the best of luck!

I was a test optional student, so my application was focused on my GPA, activities, and especially my essays.

IB Diploma Candidate with a 3.9/4.0 GPA, awesome essays, a good portfolio, and a lot of extracurricular activities. I will be attending Temple Universityā€™s Tyler School of Art (Architecture).

Hi Everyone,

Welcome to the Honors program at Temple. From firsthand experience, I can honestly tell you that the Honors program is amazing and the staff encourages us (Honors students) to explore our interests and take the most challenging courses. For those that are waiting to hear to back from other schools, I honestly think you should at least consider Temple since many of my fellow classmates have gone on to the most prestigious graduate school programs in the world and have contributed a lot to my education. However, I also think you should consider all of your options because it is best to all of your options. In terms of housing, as mention above contact the Honors Adviser Ms. Davis as she is the main person for the Honors LLC. The honors program has grown significantly especially the year after I got year thus Iā€™m not sure if housing is still guaranteed for freshmen but they do block off a large portion of 1300 to ensure space for honors students. If you have questions, I encourage you to reach out to the honors program (I would love to answer all of your questions but Iā€™m in the final few weeks of a really challenging semester). Best of luck and I look forward to seeing some of you next year.
