Honors College/Competition/Fin Aid

I was wondering what are the stats for most kids that get into the Honors C at UVM?

Also, when applying to the different schools of UVM, which are most competitive? which aren't?
I'm looking into being a Psych major. Does that mean I'll be applying to the college of Arts and Science? How competitive is that one?

Also, for fin aid, I'm an OOS and will my family not being able to pay for my college completely effect my chances of getting in? Does UVM offer alot of financial aid?

I am going to tell you right now, you need over 2000 at least for Honors College at UVM. From what I heard, they go solely based on standardized tests for admittance into the Honors College.

Yes to Arts and Sciences for Psych major. And it isn’t really all competitive. Almost everyone at UVM is under that college. It is fairly general and broad.

Your financial situation does not affect their decision at all. UVM is middling with aid from my experience.

Does anyone know when you find out about Honors. Because I’ve been accepted but not informed about H. college, scholarships & finantial aid, etc.

you are supposed to hear within 3 weeks of being accepted.

I heard about honors college a week ago.

my son got his Honors College acceptance today. 2080 SAT. no info on Fin Aid yet

Do they consider the SAT writing score, or just M+CR? I got 700 CR 710 Math, and 790 Writing X(
Is it true that it is based solely off of SAT scores? Do APs affect it? (2 4’s, 2 5’s).

my D was awarded the Presidential Scholarship, 6k/yr. ACT 32. She applied VIP app in late Oct, got her acceptance in Dec, and this letter today.

Going to accepted students day in March.

My S just received small scholarship notice in mail yesterday (Trustees scholarship, $3000 a year) No invitation to Honors. ACT 29 (i think that translates into 1950 SAT?) Applied Early Action in october, got acceptance notice in December.

I have a question, i applied using the VIP application and got in relatively fast. Then after quite a while i received the presidential scholarship by mail. I have an ACT of 30 (Composite) and an SAT of 1950. The ACT score translates to about a 2000 SAT so does anyone think I have a chance at the Honors program? If it matters (which it does’nt seem like) I have great extracurriculars and a strong gpa. I think I received my acceptance in December.

oh, i am OOS

I actually think standardized test scores and RANK may be more important. Schools have different courses and different weight systems, so gpa is important for admission at most schools, but rank shows how you did compared with your peers in the same school–that and level of challenge. Gpa is just one variable, but is the real difference between a 91 and a 93 average? Rank-wise, it might be 40 places! Good luck. (My d. was accepted Honors last week. SAT 2100, gpa 93, top 10 in class)

haha my school doesn’t rank, im sure i would be pretty high though despite it being a fairly competitive school, i really like UVM’s campus and i really like how interested they are in me, but it’d be hard to chose it over a Michigan or a Wisconsin and the honors college would be a real benefit!
thanks for your input!

Hey everyone! Does anyone know if the honors invitation is supposed to come with the scholarship info? I received my scholarship last weekend but nothing about honors. I got a 2110 on my SAT’s and I was really hoping to be part of the honors college! :)

^Kaylala, I was just wondering that too! I recieved my scholarship info today but I’m in the same boat! Hopefully they come separately, I’d love to be in the honors college!

I just got my acceptance to the honors program today

I got an acceptance letter and a separate mailing from the honors college, but no scholarship info (said those would come later). I had a 2200 sat. Really excited, the honors college has amazing housing right in the heart of the campus.

Got accepted today. About how long should I be expecting to hear about scholarship and/or Honors College info?

I got into the honors college with my general acceptance and received a scholarship today, about three weeks later.

A friend of mine at my school got a scholarship with her acceptance a while ago, and got a letter from the honors college this week.

So it seems like people who are still waiting on each could still get them.

S was accepted on 2/17, received scholarship today. No word on honors, not really expecting it.

I was accepted to UVM in the first week of January, about 2 weeks later I received a merit scholarship. I just got invited to the honors college last week (I have a 3.8 gpa uw and a 31 ACT) I do not think high school rank is as important as gpa and test scores as my school does not rank and I was still accepted.
