Honors College Entrance Essay

Most people belong to many different communities; groups defined by (among other things) shared geography, religion, ethnicity, income, cuisine, interests, race, ideology, or intellectual heritage. Choose one of the communities to which you belong and describe that community and your place within it.

I am going to write about being a part of a certain political party. I have tons of ideas, I just do not know how to begin this type of essay. The entire essay must be 300 words or less. Can someone help? Thank you!

Be sure not to alienate an admissions committee member that may be part of the “other” political party. Pay very careful attention to the “describe your place within in” instructions. That’s what they want to learn about. Spending 300 words supporting the virtues of your political party will get you no where, in my opinion.

Good luck!

We don’t know how you fit into that political party, so we really can’t help you with specifics.

For brainstorming, though:
Do you have any stories regarding your involvement? Could you tell one, briefly, as an introduction?
What does the party mean to you?

Yes, I am going to be discussing my volunteer experience with the mayoral and council candidates in my community and my impact on one of the presidential candidate’s campaigns!! (My large impact which even required a handwritten letter from this person.)
