<p>I’ve decided to pursue a finance degree, with potential jobs including investment banking, corporate finance, and other related fields. Before looking at ASU, I was set on attending a northeast school (Georgetown, NYU, Fordham, BC, Northeastern) in hopes of landing a great finance job. However, I was looking at ASU and it seems as though their honors program is great, and their investment banking program looks remarkable as well. I would love to eventually live in Arizona, and at ASU I’m thinking I could develop a pretty good base in Phoenix and the surrounding area. (I’m from CT). Additionally, the cost is quite lower than the previous schools I mentioned.
So, I had a couple of questions about the honors business program there. First, how prestigious is it really? For instance, if competing against a grad from Georgetown for an Arizona job, would it be even? Also, for grad school, how competitive is ASU?
Second, I wanted to know how integrated the Barret students are with the rest of the student body.</p>

<p>ASU is not a prestigious school. Their acceptance rate is just way too high. Job markets would be much more impressed with a degree from Georgetown, NYU, Fordham, Etc. I orginally had my heart set on ASU but then i got accepted to the U of A, a better school, so i will be going there. Im just happy im going to college in arizona cuz its freaking beautiful there. The honors program at ASU is pretty damn solid though not gona lie. However the school as a whole is not looked up highly and is considered an easy school to get into and a hardcore party school. My advise to you is that you should go to georgetown, nyu, etc if you can get in and afford it then move to phoenix and wow your bosses with those degrees. the northeast schools are more presitigous than asu. however if you really really wana go to asu then go for it.</p>
<p>and1baller753, you have some VERY false information there. U of A is not really a better school at all except they have stronger programs at science and medical area. But if you want engineering, finance or journalism go to ASU, which has better schools. Of course, ASU honors college is really good, way much better than u of a honors college. U of A, some people erroneously consider as a “public ivy”, is also very easy school to get in with a lot of fraternity and sorirety. Also. asu honors college is opening a new buildings dorms only for honors students this fall and starting to getting national recognition also. So what I recommend you,redsoxfanspx , is if you cannot really afford any of those private schools there, come to asu (they give a lot of scholarship to out of state also)</p>
<p>thanks for the input guys. looking at admissions and my stats, Georgetown and NYU are probly reaches, but the other schools look like a match (fordham, northeastern, bc), as well as asu honors. Also, money is not an issue, however $20,000 a year less would be easier for my parents and give me a head start on grad school tuition. ASU really draws me in in two categories- The amazing weather down there, and that I want to live in that area when I graduate. (currently in CT) My concern is that it will be hard to just move down to Phoenix without being familiar there while getting a degree from a northeast school.</p>

ASU has some of the most amazing programs, W.P. Carey (top 25), Honors program, I believe is top in the west, Journalism also very high. Tempe is beautiful and your making a smart decision, Phoenix is a growing city and needs workers. I suggest going to ASU. Good luck :D</p>

<p>this makes no sense to me. I would never attend UA unless I was majoring in the sciences, and even then, I think I would prefer ASU because Barrett is really excellent.</p>
<p>I was pretty set on Barrett until I got into some good private schools that are out of state.</p>
<p>Most Phoenix employers will give an ASU graduate equal consideration with a graduate from a more “prestigious” northeastern school. If you attend ASU, it will be easier to get internships with Phoenix employers, which may give you an advantage after graduation.</p>
<p>Barrett is good and all but it’s not what it’s cracked up to be. U of A is a better school, especially if you aren’t in the honors program. And for the sciences it is an excellent school, but also for the humanities. ASU has a giant student population, climbing to the highest in the country right now. Have you filled out their application? It is a joke.</p>
<p>^ dude what are you talking about??? Barrett is getting better and better, building new dorms and classroom exclusively for honors students only. (u of a honors residence halls are crappy as hell) Also, ASU has a big student population, they have 3 campuses (tempe, polytech, West) + phoneix campus. U of a does not have that much exclusive classes and programs for honors students like Barrett.
of course u of a is better school (in science i admit that) if you are not in honors program but honestly tuscon pretty much offer them nothing like phoenix and tempe do to asu students. ha u of a is “public ivy”…my a-s-s. you dont even know what you are talking about.</p>
<p>From what I know from past students: Phoenix companies, when looking for interns or employees, go to W.P. Carey and ask for Honors Students. If you want to work in Phoenix in some sort of Finance, Barrett + Carey is one of the best guarantees to get you there. Plus, any ASU grad in Arizona will hire an ASU grad over someone with a degree from Georgetown etc.</p>
<p>i highly doubt employers would prefere ASU grads instead of Georgetown grads. Look at ASU’s freakin application. Its a joke. U of A’s app goes into detail and actually has an essay like ALL competive colleges do. ASU is a nice school if u cant get into any other school with competitve admissions. Saying someone would prefere an ASU grad than a G-town grad is utterly redic. Sure their honors program and business school are okay. But its ASU. They have a 95 percent acceptance rate for a reason. U of A overall is a much better institution. Phoenix is a better area though. Go cats</p>

<p>Make sure we know there is a difference between ASU and ASU-Barrett Honors College. Most employers from the Arizona area will treat the two very differently. The Barrett students are highly sought after.</p>

If you can get into Georgetown you should not be looking at ASU. IDC if its the honors college or not. A kid in my grade got into their honors college with a 86 average and a 27 on the ACT. If you call those stats prestigious than clearly you guys have a mental disorder. The honors program is solid if you cant afford to pay tuition but if you can get into any other schoo like georgetown then you should go there. This is an opionionated forum, not ASU alumnists, future students, and prospective students grouping on another person. ****. The average stat for an admitted student is an 81 average and a 22 ACT. The average for the honors program is an 87 average and a 27 ACT. how on earth can you tell me that is prestigious?</p>
