DS got a different one today, for Mar. 8, 12 or 22. Dean Shane Sharpe invites you to join him for a special visit yada yada.

Have been to UA Days, met with Jami at Honors College, much as we’d like to do this visit I’m not sure about missing more school and spending the $ to visit again. We’re already sold on UA, (just one other opportunity remaining on the list) and looking at spending $ to get down for Bama Bound in May/June. Thing is DS has still not had a face-to-face with Dean Sharpe though, and is on reserve list for CBH… wish we knew if it would help his chances (well actually, of course it would, duh) more to the point I guess is I wish we knew if there were going to realistically be open CBH spots he’s competing for.
Wish these types of things were during Spring Break!

Thanks for asking about this as D received an invite this weekend too. Sounds very similar in nature to the Honors Day back in November that she attended. She’ll be back on March 27th for Panhellenic Preview Day, then June 1 & 2nd for Bama Bound. Can’t imagine what they’d cover that she hasn’t heard at the Honors day or Capstone Scholars Day. I told her I’d be happy to take her but that she should check in with Jami Gates to see if there’s any new ground that will be covered.

^^^I’m going to agree with m2ck here. If you’ve already visited UA, then I see no reason to go to one of these days. If you want to talk to Dr. Sharpe, call after 4 and he’d probably be able to talk with you.

^ discussed it tonight and came to the same conclusion - he’ll contact Dr. Sharpe with a “regrets” RSVP which will give him the chance to reiterate his interest in UA as well as CBHP.

This was the Honors event DD & I attended last year.

There were only a few people who had attended anything at Alabama before.
Most of us had not seen the campus before, the Honors presentaion was nice.

There were maybe 100 people including parents.

It was a great opportunity for us as we could not come to any other Honors events!!

DD and I just got back from our visit/tour. Dr. Oneal (IHP) was very kind and spent over an hour with us. She then walked us across campus to make sure DD saw the new honors dorms. (Very impressive.) I think all questions have been answered even though DD has not met Dr. Sharpe.

^^ omama…Since you attended this event last year, could you give some insight in to style of dress you would recommend? We need to make another trip over there and thought this would be a good day for our D to visit the Honors College. Thanks!

DD wore black casual pants , dressy top with a cardigan.

I recall it being crisp but nice (we are from Ohio).

Last year the students got to select a sample honors class to participate in.
They had a Q & A with current Honors students, lunch in Lakeside, dorm tour.
Q & A with professor from the different departments the kids applied to (5 kids in ours).

Wear comfy walking shoes as you go around campus quite a bit. For some parts parents stayed behind for casual questions with honors staff, then meet up with student for other parts…

We also stayed behind and took the offical tour but we had not been on campus before.

We stayed two nights so we also drove around campus both nights just to see what the student body was doing…

Randomly asked a few girls at Applebees about campus & sorority rushing…and they asked DD to join them for the evening!! Really nice welcome to UA!

I can’t figure out who is getting them and who isn’t. I have a friend here that got one for a specific date, and some are getting a choice of date. Also sounds like some haven’t gotten one at all.

Are they sending them to people who haven’t paid deposits yet?

our dd received the invite with a choice of a few dates in march. we paid the all of the deposits. she did not make the cut for ufe but is in the reserve pool for cbhp. we will not be able to go as the drive is 16-hours and we were there in Jan for capstone scholars day.
