Honors College LLC in Towers question

Son is signed up for June, we haven’t decided yet if we will do the parent one - is it worth it? Assume we would not be involved in the class schedule picks, thinking we might put classes in the cart prior to orientation.

I skipped out on most of the parent orientation meetings…lol.
Definitely put every thing in his shopping cart. Parents are not in this session!!! Assuming he is taking some AP classes this year, know that those scores will not be on his myucf (because scores will be released a few weeks after honors orientation)therefore will not be on his audit to help you to select his classes. Make an educated guess to figure out his classes. Make sure he takes a list of all AP/DE classes. An advisor kinda looks over his shopping cart and may “make” him do changes, but keep in mind that your son can walk out of that session and change it all back. Get the classes he HAS to have first. He can register for spring semester too…make sure to put at least one class in spring semester…very important!!! It can all be changed easily. He will need to grab his “honors” classes. Ucf requests that students only take 2 per semester, but do what fits in his schedule best…they will fill up fast since there are only 20 per class.
Know that he may want a class that has filled up, but they release more sessions at subsequent orientations so everyone has a more fair chance. Keep watch for the next orientation dates and go back and look for newly opened sessions.

I’m sorry that was so jumbled. I hope it didn’t “muddy the waters” too much.

@kbcny8, d told me she knows there are burnett kids in the band but she doesn’t know them personally.

Thanks! Do the individual room doors lock to keep people out when you aren’t in your room? I’ve been playing with the schedule, it’s very time consuming (for me anyway) so s will definitely have choices in cart prior to orientation. What are your sd majoring in? Are they planning to continue living in Towers next year?

Individual rooms have an actual key. The suite door opens by your ucf card and code. You need an ucf card and code to get into the building also.
I’m going to PM you…I hope that’s ok.

It can be extremely time consuming to do schedule especially since myucf probably doesn’t have all DE/AP classes. I found it helpful to go ahead and send any AP/DE classes taken prior to senior year so they show up. It becomes much more clear once you can run a proper audit. The “what if” feature can be helpful also.
We use a spread sheet to keep track of prerequisites and to make sure you get in all the honors courses required by burnett.

Don’t forget the 9 summer hours!

If you click on a class, you can change the term to a term in the past to see if the class is offered historically only in certain senesters…does that make sense? Some may only be offered in spring or fall and never in summer.

If the teacher is listed for a class, go online to ratemyprofessor.com to get some insight.

We also had the AP scores sent to get a better idea of where S stands. Is the spreadsheet you mentioned on the website or is something you did? Thanks for the key information, glad to know the room can be locked. Did your SD use the roommate search or did they know someone already?

Hey all, if you send AP scores before you get scores from senior year do you have to pay to send the new ones as well or are they automatically sent? Thanks!

If your S/D lists UCF on the AP test, the school will get every AP test taken during their high school career for no charge. If they didn’t put UCF as the schoolon previous tests then you might want to spend the $15 and have them sent. It will help when decided on classes! BTW I’m a newbie at this so if any of the experts want to chime in, we all would appreciate any tips!!

@KBCNY8 S didn’t use room surf, but D did. I think it is worth looking into. Go thru the process and see what comes up. It can be difficult because new students don’t know to put Burnett in their profile and as you know, one has to be part of Burnett or nmf in order to live in towers 3. Your S may find someone with similar interests and that could be good. My D Skyped with potential roommates…perhaps have a lists of questions to ask.
@blountwil2 I think it’s well worth the small cost to get the scores there early to assist in the class selections.

Spread sheet was homemade…lol!
