What I meant to say, dhm, but was in a rush and therefore too brief, was that the students who have received their Honors invitation already may be from the Early applicant pool, while those who applied RD, will probably get their Honors invite in a few weeks, as their apps. are still being processed.
RD candidates should be equally considered for the Honors program and merit scholarships.

That sounds correct. I am an Early Notification applicant and recieved the Honors invitation package on Friday Feb 11. I'm sure they havent given away all 200 spots. It would also make sense if, in the end, they invited more than 200 since not all students invited will enrole after their acceptance.

Last year those in the RD pool received their Honors Program notifications about one to two weeks after receiving their letter of admission which was sent out around April 1.

Has anyone gotten a letter from Robertson Scholars yet?

I haven't gotten anything. Have they notified people yet? I know last year they didn't announce finalists until February 28.

I just got a letter informing me that I "have been selceted to receive an academic scholarship from the University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill...In early april you will receive a scholarship offer letter from the Office of Scholarships and Student Aid. This letter will include details on your specific scholarship and the amount to be awarded...Our academic scholarships range from $2500 to $7500 per year for North Carolina Students...Your selection as a scholarship recipient is based on your...academic achievements" Signed by Dr. Dan F Thorton, Sr Assitant Director for Scholarships.

Wait- did you apply early or regular? Congratulations, either way!

Do they let North Carolinans know before others? Even if you applied EA, I thought all merit $$ was only announced much later in March.

I applied early and am a NC resident...
I also thought that scholarship stuff didnt come out until late March, but I was obviously wrong. Either way, the letter does state that they will inform me of complete details in April. My guess is that they want to wait for ALL applications EA and RD before they make final decisions and give them all away.

hey nckid, I know this is a nitpick (sp?) question, but do you know when that letter was postmarked. I am really hoping for a scholarship but I wont be shattered if I dont get one.

thanks

Did you apply early decision? If you didnt, dont worry b/c im sure they will wait untill they read all of the applications prior to giving away all scholarships. If you did, dont worry either b/c they will probably go back to some EA applicants.

The letter is dated Feb 7 the envelope was postmarked on the 16.
BUT i got the letter yesterday the 22... so i dunno how that works.

Its real though. Printed on the standard UNC letterhead using the same style they used for all correspondance, envelope, "ROYAL 26% Cotton" water mark (if you hold it up to the light, you can see it in the paper), and hand signed by Dr. Thornton.

Like I said before, I was surprised to get it this early but then again they did say they would send all the details in early April.

Congratulations nckid. You did great........Honors Program and Merit $$. Now I remember, someone on the Honors thread was "explaining" to everyone that they should not expect the Honors invite with stats like yours. That burned me.
Good for you :)

Thanks. Its kinda cool to have prooved that SAT is not everything! Plus I remember reading about the kid who had a 1600 but got denied and the parents sued UNC... Im glad to see that things arent all about Standardized Tests.

He wasn't really rejected; his acceptance was revoked. His grades (A's) went to C's second semester after he was admitted EA. Senioritis can definitely come back to bite you. :)

Congrats on the merit $ !

Robertson semifinalist letters (for Duke applicants at least) came today. If you're interested, there's a thread on the Duke board about that merit scholarship.

Did you get one, justforgetme?

Yup, justforget is a Robertson semifinalist at Duke University, and a Harvard Early Admit.
Congratulations, justforget.

hahaa, thanks chocoholic

I have only heard of Duke semifinalists... has anyone from UNC heard?

I applied to UNC and Duke; I haven't heard yet. I e-mailed UNC about a week ago, and they said notification would come by Feb 28. I'm getting nervous...
