Honors College notification

I saw on the UCSB website that the letters announcing your invitation to the honors program were mailed out on the 15th and 16th. I guess only the top 10% of applicants get one?

Anyone get one yet?

i guess if u were in CCS, ur automatically in Honors. i read this somewhere, is this right?

Hey vampire,
CCS and the honors program are totally different things. The way it was explained was that CCS replaces your regular program, whereas the Honors program is in addition to the regular program. If your are in CCS, you would not be getting an honors college notice, as it already is considered the "elite" college at UCSB, and therefore there is no honors program within it. But there is an honors program at the College of Letters and Sciences

I am STILL waiting to hear from CCS. Again, congrats to you for getting in. Are you going there?

I wonder if the "high-achieving" app thing they sent means you have a better chance at honors? I've all decided that I'll be attending UCSB this fall- Honors will for sure be the deciding factor. I'd probably attend without the honor program, but it'd be a nice bonus if I got it (even though I have utterly mediocre stats).

xmisterpenguin,
Did you go to the "high achieving" reception thing, too? I went to the one in SF. I was wondering if they sent that to everyone who was accepted.(?) If I don't get into honors OR CCS, I don't think I'll be going to UCSB. My UC GPA was something like 4.4 and I worked my tail off to get that (November, when we applied, was SUCH a long time ago I almost forgot:) my UC GPA), but my SAT I was less stellar (around 1400) but I still really want some kind of honors program. Still have not heard from CCS or the honors program, so both are not looking good for me :(

Update:

I got my honors college notification today! I feel SO much better!

I didn't go; the one in my area was in costa mesa on a day I was unavailble. Not everyone recieved the "high-achieving" invit. thing, I believe and I have no idea how they selected who recieved it. Anyway, congrats on the honors! =D

Hey xmisterpenguin,

Thanks for the congrats. It sort of dulled the pain of being denied to CCS. I really do not think that was for me, anyway. It is just too focused. Amazing opportunity for those that are totally committed to their speciality, though. I just don't want to be pigeon-holed the day I walk into college, so I think the honors program is a better fit for me. Are you going to UCSB?

I was wondering about those receptions. There were hundreds of students there, so I thought maybe they just invited all accepted students, and first to reply could come :)

I'm going to SB.. almost for sure. My parents are trying to persuade me to go to UCI, as it is closer to home, but then that defeats my sole goal of going to college to get away from home =P.

Yeah, I didn't that many people were going to show up. I signed up for the UCR reception like an hour before the actual event, and there was still room left. I tried to sign up for the LA one yestarday but had no luck. lol. Oh well!

Are you going to UCSB? If I had the honor program, I'd go sure =P

I got the honor program thing but I dont think I'll be going to UCSB

i got one too.

I guess I didn't get in to the honor's program
*Tears

OH well!

xmisterpenguin: did you get into UCLA?

?? or is this for something else

does anyone know what the benefits of the honors program is

I recieved my notification of acceptance into the honors program on Saturday and although I am still visiting all of the colleges I got accepted to, the honors program at UCSB kinda deal maker for me.

Has anyone heard/ been admitted to the honors program at UCSD?

Has anyone decided to attend UCSB this fall? If so, do you mind sharing what made you decide on UCSB?

I've been admitted to the honors program and I probably will not attend

does anyone know what the benefits of the honors program is?

Well, it seems as though there are several benefits. On the brochure they sent it says:

-opportunity to work closely with world-renowned faculty throughout your academic career. Special enrichment section in first and second year courses and opportunities for individualized work for upper division courses are avalable to honor students.
-priority placement on a scholars floor.
-access to honors study center which provides a quiet study environment and computing facilities exclusively for honors students
-early registration for classes, special academic advising, same library priveges as graduate students

sorry for typos...I'm not even checking :)

I am visiting a few So Cali colleges next week, UCSB being one of them. Right now, I don't think I will go there, but I am interested in visiting anyway.

hmm those sound like nice privileges if I choose to attend UCSB

even if you don't get invited to the honors program upon admission, you can get in after you are already a student at UCSB. It's not too much special, just a few perks and a required 3.5 gpa.
