Honors college or college of arts and sciences

My first school for Baylor would be the business.
For my second, I do not know if I should apply to honors or not?
I read the website of the honors college, but I am still confused.
Can I still major in business in the honors college?
I have a 3.8 GPA and 28 ACT.
Please give me any advice.
Thank you

You may major in business and be a member of the Honors College. If you did that you would choose from two Honors College programs: Baylor Interdisciplinary Core (BIC) which combines most of your general requirements into interdisciplinary classes, or Honors in which you do research/write thesis and either take honors sections of classes or contract for honors work in classes.

The Honors College also includes two majors, so if you chose one of these, you would not major in business. Those are Great Texts and University Scholars (U-Schol). If you are in University Scholars you also do a senior thesis. University Scholars basically design their own major so you could probably take a lot of business classes. (My daughter does BIC and Honors so I am not an expert in University Scholars.) However, I think that if that is your interest you should also look into the Business Fellows program which allows you to focus on business.

I hope that this makes it a little more clear!

thank you so much.
but I have a few more questions.
How selective is the honors college?
Can I still get into Baylor if I do not get in the honors college?

I have a daughter applying to Baylor and to the honors college, so this is my understanding, but I’m obviously not an admissions counselor. I’d suggest you contact the admissions department to ask your specific questions. My understanding is that your initial application to Baylor is to the university as a whole, not to the honors college. Once admitted, you can apply to the honors college by either applying to major in University Scholars, or applying to the BIC (Baylor Interdisciplinary Core) or Honors Program. You can also apply to several of these at once, if you choose. The exception to all of this is the Great Texts major, which is part of the honors college. You can specify that major at time of initial application to Baylor and if admitted to Baylor you are automatically considered to be part of the honors college.

In conjunction with applying to the honors college, you can also chose to apply to the honors residential college for housing. It’s a separate application that is only processed once you’ve been accepted to one of the programs in the honors college.

To answer your selectivity question, I believe it ranks generally as below…

University Scholars Major - very selective (only about 50 admitted each year).
Honors Program - selective with average ACT of 30.
BIC - semi-selective (about 200 admitted each year)
Great Texts - not more selective than the University as a whole

Note that the ACT number for the Honors Program is the average, so half of the people were higher and half were lower.
