Honors College or Not?

Need some people's opinions on whether or not I should do honors college.

I got accepted into my first choice school (state flagship) but haven't heard on whether or not I'm invited to the honors college yet. With my stats (above average but not amazing), I think there's a pretty good chance I'll be invited, and even if I'm not, I can apply to the dean if I really want to do it.

At my school, the honors courses are interdisciplinary humanities courses and cover all the general education requirements besides math and science. Most of the courses are literature-based, so there's lots of reading and writing. The thing is, I really don't care for writing. (Not horrible at it or anything, I just much prefer math/science stuff.) Also, I'd be kind of disappointed that I wouldn't be able to take general education electives - I'm actually looking forward to my gen eds.

I won't get any extra scholarship money for doing it, but I'll be able to stay in the dorms all four years, which I'd really like to do. (Juniors and seniors at my school have to either get on-campus apartments or live off-campus.) No priority as far as course registration goes. I'm strongly considering the possibility of grad school, so even though the thought of doing a thesis kind of freaks me out, it would probably be good to see if I would enjoy further schooling and would probably look good on my grad school applications.

Anyway, kind of torn at this point, so any advice/points of view/whatever are welcome and appreciated.

If your major is impacted, the greatest gift provided by many honors colleges is preferred course enrollment. You’ll then be able to get all your classes and graduate on time. IMO, much more important than any housing guarantee. You’ll likely be ready to get out of the dorms by your junior year anyway. If it’s not your cup of tea, you can always bail out when you’re able to weigh the actual pros and cons.
