My high school does not rank and I go to a relatively competitive magnet school where I have taken all Honors and AP courses. However, my unweighted GPA is only a 3.56 but I have a 33 and 34 ACT score. Will I still be considered for the Honors College? I really want to go to MSU but I don’t think I can afford to go there without the Honors College scholarship (I’m an out of state student).
@blourring - My OOS son was accepted to the Honors College and got the tuition waiver and the Professorial Assistantship awards His high school is ranked number two in the US and also does not rank. His GPA when he applied was a 3.52 and he passed 15 AP exams. He got a 33 on the ACT. His extracurriculars were decent but nothing special. He was also invited to compete for the ADS scholarships.
You should be good. Go Green!
@Beaudreau thank you so much for the info! Also, do you know if students who get the OOS tuition waiver and Professorial Assistantship award can also get the Honors College National Scholarship (the one that is $15,000 per year)? Or, do they only allow students to receive either the $15k or the fee waiver (one or the other but not both)?
@blouring. Sorry, I had hopes for that one too. The HCNS is an alternative for OOS students who don’t qualify for the tuition waiver and the PA award.
What state are you from? We are in Arizona.
Did any of your parents or grandparents graduate from MSU. If so, you’d qualify for the Red Cedar Scholarship at $3,000 per year.
@Beaudreau Aww darn so tuition plus board/books would still come out to about $25k a year…
And I’m from NJ (there are no state scholarships for my state) and no one in my family went to MSU.
@blourring Based on this year’s tuition and room and board, you would be at right around $20k plus books, supplies, airfare, and miscellaneous expenses.
The alumni clubs has scholarships available. You should contact Larry Alterman @ 479-366-3482. He recruits the East Coast for MSU. He will be at the New Jersey National College Fair on April 20. http://www.nacacnet.org/college-fairs/SpringNCF/Pages/New-Jersey.aspx
Hey,
I am also admitted to MSU’s College of Engineering and the Honors College. I was wondering if the College of Engineering Scholarships are just for US citizens (I am an international from India). My ACT is 32 is that matters.
Thanks.
