I’m an OOS resident. I visited UA in July and fell in love w/ the campus and the Honors College. I retook the SAT in Nov to get my score up to a 1250 which would qualify me for Honors. Unfortunately, I received a 1240 (620 CR, 620 M) My super score IS a 1250. Can I still apply to Honors? Are they lenient at all? I’m in the top 10% of my class and my HS GPA is a 4.1 with an extensive list of extracurriculars and leadership. I know I can apply to Honors after freshman year but I was really hoping to go in with Honors :(

Are you taking either the December ACT or December SAT tests? You can check and see if late registration or standby testing is available.

UA WILL ACCEPT DECEMBER TEST SCORES FOR SCHOLARSHIP.
Read this entire FAQS page carefully

"When are the last ACT/SAT test dates that you accept?

The national December ACT and the national December SAT are the last college entrance examination results accepted for students who want scholarship consideration."

Copied from the link:
"Do you accept both ACT and SAT scores?

Yes, we accept either test. We evaluate your application based on the highest composite test score from any one test date taken at the national level. We equate the SAT (critical reading and mathematics components only) to an ACT score in order to determine the highest score to use for your scholarship application.

Please note that the national December ACT and national December SAT results are the last college entrance examination results accepted for students who wish to be considered for academic scholarships."

This would give you two more test dates to try and raise your scores if late registration is available, if not try stand- by testing. It is worth a shot.

Copied from the link:
"Do you “super-score” tests for scholarship consideration?

No, we do not “super-score.” We evaluate your application based on the highest composite test score from any one test date taken at the national level. We do not penalize based on a student taking multiple tests."

I believe you need to take the writing component.

You don’t have to take the writing component for the Dec test if you already have a writing component on another test.

Bama does’t superscore. You need to take the Dec ACT or SAT.

I think Bama will also accept the January test for the Honors College.

Will they accept January for scholarship consideration as well? @mom2collegekids

I just applied for Dec SAT wait list. Does anyone have any experience w/ wait list? Is there a good chance I will be able to take it

I really don’t know how the wait list works but did you try to apply for the ACT as well, it is a different type of test and some students do better on this test than on the SAT. If it is not too late to do late registration or stand-by, why not try this test as well. It is another chance to get the score you need.

Best of Luck!

I think you have a good chance with the Dec SAT waitlist. Many kids get busy in Dec and end up cancelling their seat or “not showing”.

Does the WL allow you to show up and take the seat of a “no show”? If so, get to the test site EARLY EARLY so that you’re first in line to take the seat of a “no show.”

I am almost certain that the HC will accept a January score for the HC. I’ve never seen a deadline for testing for the HC.

@mom2collegekids I was able to take the December SAT, I got there early and they let me in no problem, they had enough materials for all of the waitlisters.
I’m ready to submit my HC application now. Will the deny me HC acceptance b/c they don’t have my Dec scores yet or will they set my application aside until the receive my Dec scores? Thanks!

Just submit the application, don’t wait, and then call the Honors College and let them know that you have taken the December test. Do you know when the scores become available? Did you put down the code for the university so that the scores are sent automatically?

Good Luck on those scores!!

I don’t know. I don’t know who you would call since I’m not sure that the same person does all the processing. Can you wait til you have your scores?

Yes scores will be sent automatically. Scores are available on Dec 23.

For those students who do not get into HC at first, you can also apply after you’ve enrolled at UA - see FAQ link here: http://honors.ua.edu/honors-q-and-a/

"What if I don’t qualify for the Honors College right now? Can I be admitted later?
“Yes! Current UA students with a minimum 3.3 GPA and at least 12 hours of UA coursework will be accepted into the Honors College upon submission of an application. Starting Fall 2014, all Current UA Students must apply within their first academic year on campus to be eligible for admission. All students who apply with greater than 60 hours are required to draft a plan to finish all honors coursework prior to admission. Students will be notified of their acceptance by email.”

Yes, but if your scores from the December test raise you to the Honor College requirements. then you will be in from your first semester, otherwise as stated above you can get in later. However, send in your application now.
