I know they said they still had many letters to send out, but it is "mid-Feb" like they've said and we still haven't heard a thing about Honors College. Anyone else starting to lose hope? I believe things work out the way they're supposed to when you live your faith, but we were so sure about this one... We sorta had all our eggs in this basket.

I don’t think you should worry quite yet. I am also hoping to be accepted to the Honors College. From what I understand, the decisions were supposed to have been made by today and mailed this week. So there should be a letter by the end of this week.

SEC2016 - Here’s hoping. Good luck to you!

Just received the letter - it’s a no-go on the Honors College. Their applicants must have been pretty darn good this year. I really thought my son had a good chance. Good luck to everyone else still waiting to hear.

Yep, my son didn’t get in either. We got the letter today as well. We’re stunned. I mean, he got accepted right away but then nothing else. Well, we would have been out of state, so I think this will make my son look at other schools more closely, especially the ones who are actively trying to get him to come. Congrats to everyone who gets the “yes” letter.

D received her YES today in Raleigh, NC. She is very excited. Its decision time now.

So great to hear that someone recieved good news! There is still hope! I hate asking this but what was your daughters SAT if you don’t mind saying?

These are only estimates since I don’t have the specific numbers in front of me. SAT totals were around 2100. Her WGPA about 4.8. But then, those are just stats. Sure that her application had something in it that attracted them as well. She works about 25 hours a week and Captain of her V-Lax team with All-conference and Academic All-American honors.

Here’s what Honors site says “The mid-range of scores–between 25% and 75% of all scores–for the 2010 Freshman class was between 1370 and 1450 (SAT critical reading and math) and between 31 and 33 on the ACT. The average weighted GPA was 4.51. Higher SAT or ACT scores can offset lower grades vice versa”. Last years class may have even been higher.

CFitz and others:

Occasionally, schools do throw surprises. I have cases where some reputed schools offered more and relatively less-known schools have not made offers. I think some schools blindly decide on ACT. It also depends on who reads your essays and whether they can read in-between the lines. Unfortunately, some kids may get unlucky. I can empathize with the word “stunned.” Believe me, it is not your son or daughter. It happens sometimes. You could call and ask them why.

Appreciate the discussion thread.

My daughter had a 1400 on the SAT, a GPA of 4.62, is ranked in the top 5% of her class, and has a stellar record of extra-curricular activities and community service. She was recently turned down for the University of South Carolina Honors College. She has the stats according to the USC website. One of her friends with a lower SAT, lower GPA, and lower class rank was accepted. We can’t figure it out and the person we spoke with at USC would not offer any insight.

My daughter was accepted to all of the NC State Honors programs. We live in South Carolina, but my daughter no longer wants to go to USC, since she did not get into the Honors College.

Well that is CRAZY. She is clearly more than qualified. They should have been knocking her door down! I don’t get it… But like I always say, everything happens for a reason. For whatever reason, USC is not the school she’s meant to go to, but I would be very frustrated too… I just hope she ends up very happy wherever she ultimately chooses to go.

I just received a letter yesterday and was accepted. I had a 1320 SAT (670 Math + 650 Reading), about 3.9 UW GPA, and about top 15% in my class in W GPA (don’t remember what it was though). AP Psych (5) in junior year and currently taking AP Stat and AP Calc AB as a senior. Absolutely 0 extracurriculars. White male from upper middle class family (don’t know if this effects anything here, or anywhere for that matter). Didn’t write any sort of essay, personal statement, recommendation, or anything like that. I think I applied for Engineering major. From Greenville, SC.

lolwot - did you fill out the Honor’s College Application Supplement or just the USC application?

Lolwot
Did you get into honors or Capstone? My son just got his acceptance letter for Capstone. The honors application had quite a few mandatory essays. Capstone just required the application. Either way, congrats

Sent from my DROID RAZR using CC App

I suspect Lolwot was accepted to Capstone. My D also received a letter yesterday about being accepted to Capstone. The Honors College rejection letter arrived about a month ago.

My son just received an invitation to Capstone. It seems awfully late for that!?

D got Capstone invite yesterday, McKissick letter last week. Takes the sting out of not getting into Honors College.

True, it does. I really think the criteria for Honors College were super tough this year. I was talking to another mom whose son had pretty darn good stats and he was turned down as well.

Son received Capstone invite today, in NY.
