No for my son also.
Is there still any chance of getting in-state tuition offer? We received the “merit of at least 10K/year” letter in December.

@sunnyschool I am hoping for in-state tuition. My daughter got the min of 10k letter too. U of SC is her top pick right now, but we need in-state to make it work.
@SandyCollege If you go onto SC scholarship website it lays out the avg. GPA and SAT for instate. YOu can still get in state without HC but you must be within the avg These stats were from last year but they probably will be similar
@jgwolf - I have no idea what her recalculated GPA is (I’m not sure if they count all classes). Her high school is on a 100 point scale. If I go just based on ACT, she should qualify for in-state+. When I did the net price calculator, it looked like in-state as well. I guess I’ll just feel better once I see the final award.
@SandyCollege I know they just look at core classes I think its laid out somewhere on their website . I guess 90-100 is and A and so on but then you figure the .5 for honors and 1 pt for AP classes. I guess you will find out soon though
Son received an email this morning inviting him into the Honors College. He is very excited. We’re going to visit the campus in March and we are very happy and for him. Can’t wait to see the campus!
It was a no for my daughter as well. 5.1 GPA, 1460 SAT, all 5’s on AP’s, Captain Volleyball/Soccer Teams, student government, volunteer, etc. Hard part is her brother is honors student and Top Scholar at U of SC and she so wanted to be at the same school with her brother. Ahhhhh. Broken Heart and many tears today. But - she got into Clemson Honors College (son is not pleased LOL), accepted at Chapel Hill, accepted to the University of Virginia, honor at CALS at NC State and fantastic scholarships at Georgia and TN (she wants to be vet) Siblings are so close that this breaks my heart. Congrats to all who got in. It really is a great program and she won’t go to the university without it.
DD Invited to Top Scholars weekend. Received e-mail today - Thanks You God!
Wow your daughter has great options . I think once it sets in she will be ok. Georgia is a great option for PreVet. Being rim Va. I can say getting into UVA is also fantastic USC Honors must be really competitive . Wonder if 1500 is the min SAT score. Best of luck to your daughter
Curious what his stats are? It seems so many were denied
My kid got into Honors College yesterday, but was notified a few weeks ago that he is not being considered for Top Scholars.
Interesting. I thought all the invites had gone out all ready. Congratulations! Must have been a lovely surprise.
@Stamps2024 Congratulations to the whole family! We’re OOS. I thought we had not been notified but my son told me he received the “not a Top Scholar” e-mail on 2/6. It’s still one of his top choices. We’ll visit in April.
That doesn’t seem right. I know someone accepted with under a 1400. Not sure how their system works. I think those that applied early action def had an advantage.
@Uscorbamaoretc - I read somewhere that the essays were very important. I thought my daughter’s were great, but I am probably biased. When the program is that selective, I am not sure there is any rhyme or reason to understanding their selections. I bet most of the candidates had amazing credentials and deserved a spot, but there are just so many they can take. It’s disappointing, but sometimes things work out for the best.
I did! It’s an AMAZING place to live and I highly recommend it. You won’t get this kind of community anywhere else.
Honestly, the best thing for me is the resources and opportunities. The staff is fantastic and always strives to get you where you need to be. I took a Capstone section of University 101, and they helped a lot with a more in-depth intro to the program and the school. I also really like that we are required to meet with our Capstone counselors once a semester, not just our academic advisors. Our Capstone advisors do care about what you want to do with your degree and help you with internships and findings jobs and such. I also like that Capstone is geared more toward a “leadership” program. In HS, I was team captain, and on the board for many clubs, so it felt smarter to go into a program that would help me develop my leadership skills even more, especially for when I graduate and am looking for a job.
Does anyone know if Capstone is dependent on your major? My daughter is Marine Science and I don’t want that to hurt her since she isn’t in business.
Capstone is not major dependent. My daughter’s major is biochemistry and molecular biology and she was a capstone scholar her first year. All the activities they did were not major specific. Like someone mentioned, it felt more like leadership training.
Did she continue in the program her second year? I meant does her major hurt her chances of getting in. Thanks.
