Honors College/Top Scholars Class of 2024

We got the acceptance by email today. ???. Ranked #1. 1460 SAT. 4.0 uwgpa. 8.76 weighted

Are you oos or in state

@star847wars
My S, accepted today:
OOS, 34 ACT (35 superscored), 4.0 UW, lots of leadership/mentorship, meaningful ECs, some of which he’s done for 10+ years. Also has worked as a swim instructor since he turned 14. Exercise Science major.

My son received an email today inviting him to a Scholar Social the evening before admitted students dates. But no mention of Honors College. Wondering if this is a tip he will not be getting acceptance into Honors? Or a tip that he will? Is notification of acceptance by email typically? He was accepted early with in state tuition (we are OOS), but we have not received a mail packet yet either.

We r out of state

My girls got their honors college packets in the mail today. That was super quick!!

@twinmommy twin girls did too! Although I doubt mine will both end up attending the same school. One of them really wants to have her own unique college experience.

Does anyone know how housing selection goes - if you are selected for the Honors College are you guaranteed housing in the honors dorm? How is the priority for housing handled, do we have to put a deposit down now or can we wait?

You might check the website in case things have changed; but in the past, dorm selection goes by application date – to the university, not to the Honors College. So no need to put a housing deposit in now; your kid’s pick time has already been determined.

As many Honors students as possible will be placed in the Honors Residence Hall. There are also Living Learning Communities that Honors students can live in if they wish.

My kid started in 2015 and was initially assigned to Woodrow with two sophomores (definitely not her preference). Fortunately, by the time she moved in, a spot was available in the Honors Dorm.

Back then, quite a number sophomores stayed in the Honors Dorm for a second year. My understanding is that sophomores are now encouraged (maybe even required) to move out of the Honors Dorm after Year 1 (to 650 Lincoln, the Horseshoe, or off-campus) to ensure room for all the incoming Honors freshman in the Honors Dorm.

I didn’t get a first wave email - OOS 33ACT, 35 superscored. 96.8 weighted GPA. A ton of extracurriculars that I am very dedicated to, really good essay and most likely good letters of rec too. Are my stats too low?

@“k_atherine.h” I’m sorry, that must be disappointing. Your profile seems to be right in the zone for Honors. Competition must be fierce this year. Keep in mind that this is only the first wave, and another set of Honors acceptances will go out later.

@“k_atherine.h” My DS also did not receive a first wave email. He has a 1560 SAT, unweighted 4.0, lots of strong ec’s and actually applied to SC because he received a letter telling him he’d be a likely admit into the Honors College along with some other specifics. . So, a little baffled, but still hoping for good news for both him and for you in the next couple weeks.

Wow, @inktopaper , that really is surprising. I wonder if demonstrated interest is making a difference here? My S visited campus twice, and (truthfully) said in his Honors essays that UofSC was his top choice.

I’m curious how many who got in the first wave of honors were invited to a Top Scholars dinner back in the fall? My daughter did attend and also was accepted to 1st wave Honors. She is OOS, 3.9uw/4.6w, 1490 SAT, attends a well know public magnet school where most classes are AP or magnet level. ECs are very strong and let her tell an interesting story in her essays.

@hokie95 Are you in a neighboring state to SC? I’ve heard of those Top Scholar dinners happening in NC, but I’m pretty sure they don’t happen in OK where we are. If they do, S was not invited.

But anyway, that goes along with the demonstrated interest thing.

My son was accepted also. We haven’t visited yet. We are in state. 1550 SAT, 5.12 weighted GPA, NMSF, National AP scholar last year, will have over 60 college credits when he graduates.

There were Top Scholars dinners in TX the year my D applies, fyi. I don’t believe it’s just neighboring states.

@ShrimpBurrito We are in the DC area. I think they had one in VA and one in MD

One of my twins was invited to the dinner however both girls got into the first wave of honors college. Both are national merit semi finalists with 4.0 unweighted gpa. We haven’t visited the campus yet.

If they had a dinner in our area (fly over state) my daughter wasn’t invited. Now it’s also possible she deleted the email or threw out the invitation not realizing what it was as the bombardment of communication over the last few months has resulted in a lot of mass deleted emails and not opening mail. She was invited to honors in first round, OOS, 3.9 UW, 35 ACT, hasn’t visited.
