@MelSpears thank you! We’re going to visit in early February so I guess we won’t know by then. We haven’t visited yet as we live in NY.
@SandyCollege you’re welcome! Hopefully you get a decision earlier. The waiting is the worst!
@MelSpears I do wish we knew before heading to visit, just for the purposes of helping with her decision making. She’s a bit hesitant with USC because of its size so the HC would probably make it a stronger contender. However, when she lists everything she thinks she wants in a school, USC has pretty much everything … and some of her other “top” choices don’t. I guess we’ll have a better idea after visiting.
I believe this Tuesday is when we should hear who will get Top Scholars invites via Fed Ex.
Maybe. Last year, Tues Jan 15 (when Top Scholars Fed Ex packets were received) was the third Tuesday in Jan. This year, Tues Jan 14 is the second Tuesday in January. If they do the third Tues of the month again, it will be Jan 21.
I called univ of sc this morning and they said Top Scholar invites most likely won’t go out till end of January.
That’s what’s posted on their website. Dates are vague to give them some wiggle room. Looking at last year’s thread, the website also said “late January,” and decisions were received Jan 15.
Last year, I asked my admissions counselor when Top Scholar letters would be sent and he said it would be late January. I then received my Top Scholar invite on January 15. They like to keep suspected dates a secret for some reason. Last year I had also inquired about when the December round of Honors acceptances would be sent and their reply was “Honors acceptances will be sent in February.” So you cant always trust what they say regarding dates
@cockyforusc2023 i hope that happens this year too! The waiting is so hard
@anonymousmo Me too! I am just as anxious as you all: I have a family member who applied to USC Honors and was accepted in December, so she is patiently waiting to see about Top Scholars. Good luck to everyone, and I’m glad I am able to offer insight as a current student.
@cockyforusc2023 If invited to Top Scholars, is it necessary (or helpful) to also attend Admitted Students’ Day?
I attended both Admitted Students’ Day and Scholar Weekend, but I feel like ASD was a bit of a waste of time. Most of the things I learned at ASD were things I’d already heard at scholar weekend. ASD did have breakout sessions for my major, but Scholar Weekend allowed us to interact with faculty from whichever college/school we would be in.
Thanks, @cockyforusc2023. The only admitted students’ day that will work for my daughter is early February - so I was really hoping Top Scholars notifications would be received today. I think I’ll wait another 10 days or so before booking the ASD flight, in hopes of knowing Top Scholars results soon. Happy to know both weekends won’t be necessary if she gets good news on Top Scholars.
Does the Top Scholar weekend include Friday? Because the dates posted online are a Saturday - Monday.
Did anyone receive a Top Scholars invite today? I haven’t seen any posts so I’m assuming they haven’t been sent out yet.
@sandstorm42 Top Scholar Weekend for me began early afternoon Saturday and ended after lunch on Monday
Anybody else’s student get emails today from USC asking if all their test scores are in? My twins submitted all scores when they applied so I know nothing is missing. Email says "We want to make sure the information we have for you is correct. See below for the highest scores we have on record. All scores must be submitted by February 1 for admission and scholarship consideration. " I’m wondering if this means they have been passed over for Top Scholars.
@lemongirl7 yes, we got that email too. Even though my son has already been admitted to the honors college. I hope it doesn’t mean he’s been passed over for top scholars ??♀️
@lemongirl, yep, we got that email as well. Top Scholars is the only way we can make UofSC work financially, so I hope it doesn’t mean that she’s not in the running.
Best of luck to everyone!
@lemongirl7 daughter also got that email today. She was early admit to honors college. Wonder if this means they are still working on top scholars decisions?
